    Garden inspiration

We have recently moved into a house with a long, narrow, north-west facing garden - not the easiest. We don't know much about gardening, but enjoyed it in the last garden which was lovely and sunny all day and easy to deal with. Can you guys recommend any books/websites where we can get...

    Is connecting a washingmachine difficult?

That's the reply I was hoping for, thanks. Had a feeling some of these companies are happy to encourage special installment at "small" charges without letting us know it's straight forward to do yourself!

water dissappearing from hot water tap in kitchen

Thank you guys - you're really helpful. Bought new thingy to replace the dodgy thingy inside the tap and it now works beautifully. And it only cost £1 in B&Q. Still think they must have made a mistake...

    Is connecting a washingmachine difficult?

We're about to buy a washing machine (Bosch WFL 2067 Classixx) online. They say we can pay extra to have it connected, but do we need it? We've never done it before, but my other half is fairly good with tools and DIYing etc. What do we need to know about connecting? Thanks :) EDIT...

water dissappearing from hot water tap in kitchen

I forgot to mention - if you turn it on really quickly to full power, then it works as well. Problem is, then the water flows too quickly to heat it up properly :( Is it a common thing? And can it be fixed or do we need to change the tap?

water dissappearing from hot water tap in kitchen

Something happened last night. The water dissappeared from the hotwater tap in the kitchen (it still works fine in the bathroom). We'd turn it on, and a few seconds later, just as the boiler is starting, it would disappear. Now it always used to be a little funny - ie you used to turn on the...

    Big Sycamore trees in garden

how does it need to be seasoned? And could one not rent a chainsaw and cut it out oneself? (I mean, surely there must be a reason for having a man around the house?)

    Big Sycamore trees in garden

cheers! I thought sycamores were almost like weeds - that the council would want us o get rid of them.

Great, thanks. Good advice. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to answer.

    Big Sycamore trees in garden

When we bought last December the survey adviced to prune or remove 3 big sycamores in the garden as they were on suspected shrinkable subsoil. Also, the owners of the garden behind ours came around and said one of the trees is losing big branches into their garden, and they are afraid it could...

Keeping the cats in the garden

Good ideas... thank you. I don't think we'd be able to keep them in no matter what we did - they are little rascals (but very cute at it). The harness trick seems like a good idea, but we'll give them another couple of weeks to completely feel at home.

Keeping the cats in the garden

We have just gotten 2 lovely cats and would like to let them out once they are settled. We've got a fair sized garden, but we need to fence it properly. Do you know of any type of fence that would also keep the cats in as well as offering non-obtrusive privacy? Would prefer it if we could...
