sorry for jumping on to someone elses post...but im about to lay a battened floor onto concrete in the cellar... concrete floor...DPM....loose battons...floorboards do i need to vent this void???? if so how? and why dont voids need to be vented in ceilings (ie upstairs and downstairs) many...

aha....i get it nar but.....hopefully....just one more question.... should i put something between the battens and the DPM to protect the DPM from ripping etc

sorry its hard understanding when you cant see whats being explained.... do you mean ....underlayment, then battens (supported where necessary with wedges) and an extra layer of underlayment in between battens..........or do you mean to completely fill the void??

instead of wedges ? just to recap in new cellar....underlayment then t+g glued in existing cellar.... DPM, underlayment, CLS (supported by more underlayment where not touching floor) then t+g ????? cheers Gazza!!!

sorry, laying the CLS loose...then where it fails to touch the floor i will fill the gaps with wedges...then place the t+g floorboards on top (nailed) Gazza!!!

could i use the CLS here to avoid the fill...obviously filling gaps under the CLS ?? can i lay loose the t+g on top?

in the new cellar the concrete floor has DPM and is level in the existing cellar there is no DPM and is even (smooth) but not level...it appears to dip in the middle of the room by between 5 and 10mm and seems that they have laid a bit here and then a bit there!!!!

hi wouldyoulike, i think im a bit fick..... is a floating floor like when i laid laminate??....green underlay stuff, then the click laminate stuff... if so i will be using reclaimed t+g..but how do i secure pieces which are shorter than the room width? (as laminate has all edges t+g) can i...

i have heard this before...but what is the floating method??? why would i need sound insulation underneath? many thanx Gazza!!!

hi,thanx for both replys...... were trying to avoid using laminate as we love real wood.... in the new cellar the concrete floor has a DPM under 4" of concrete...can i screw floorboards straight into the concrete? in the existing cellar the concrete floor has no DPM under it.....so im gonna...

hi, im wishing to lay a new floor in the cellar....with floorboards....am i best using reclaimed floorboards or brand new ones from howart timber..... if i use new ones how long will i have to leave them in the room to aclimatise .... can anyone tell me where i might get reclaimed ones...

hi guys, im back with yet another problem...... i want to know if i can lay floorboards in my cellar without securing to the floor???? you see i have a concrete floor in the cellar which i thought and tested to have a DPM underneath it.....IT DID NOT THOUGH...so can i lay Visqueen (1200...

sorry, thanx to johnd too!!! i am using aluminium foil tape to seal the insulation, then covering with plasterboard and finally a skim!!!! cheers Gazza!!! ps do you think i should close vents once ive done the walls?
