Much searching of the net revealed several code options to try, but 1414 (with the procedure at the top of this thread) worked in my MX5. I know this is supposed to be an anti-theft measure, but I feel as much robbed by paying a dealer £20 for a 20 second procedure as I would if someone broke...

Can you share what the code was? My lovely car only gave me one attempt to input the code and then went to ERR. Think it's sulking cos I'm going to have to sell it, can't afford the petrol with the miles I travel and have had to switch to a diesel (and less stylish) car :-(
