    Insane bathroom condensation

We have an internal bathroom with no window and, whilst the fan works relatively well despite being ancient (we have an in-line one with two ceiling ducts), we also do the following: - clean water off all the shower walls with a squeegee after each shower. - run a small table top dehumidifier...

1970s Toilet Flush with two floats - help with repair

You have saved the day. Finding a similar one led me to a replacement mechanism, which showed me how to take everything apart! So now dismantled, cleaned, new joint arriving (5 EUR) and all should be good :) Thank you!

1970s Toilet Flush with two floats - help with repair

It looks like it. I think the ring that it sits in needs replacing as well because it is full of limescale. I have soaked it in vinegar but it hasn't all come off. I can't figure out how to take the thing apart to get at the valve seal. Porcher replied and asked me to send photos, so hopefully...

Neighbour Roof Issue. Their repair surely.

We live in a similar set up and would be the house on the left. This would be for us to fix - we just had ours redone. Anything on the wall (painting, cracks etc) would be yours.

1970s Toilet Flush with two floats - help with repair

Thank you - I will do. I found the original manufacturer (Porcher) who still exist and seem to have a similar model but with a different flush (same principle, more modern). I emailed them as well.

1970s Toilet Flush with two floats - help with repair

Hi all, Our upstairs toilet is from the 1970s I think, and has a flush mechanism that I haven't seen before. You pull the small knob on the top to flush, the bowl fills up then drains. Inside the cistern there are two floats. The toilet runs all the time into the bowl. All the other toilets...

Help identifying floor (so we can renovate it)

Hi all, Does anyone know what kind of floor we have on the attached pictures. We are in France, the house was built in 1973 and the floor is original. It is an ex council house so I don't think it is anything expensive. When I do I reverse image search I either get limestone, marble...

Sound test passed - what flooring now

We have this LVT click flooring in our kitchen. https://global.aspectaflooring.com/product/alpin-chambord/ We found is very sturdy - it has been down for two years and hasn't moved. It cleans really easily. It was quite tough to click together. We took off the skirting boards so we could lay...

Solar pond filter battery over winter

Hi all, I removed my solar pump from the pond filter for the winter, because it is attached to.an accumulator battery and there isn't enough light to reach the threshold for it to turn on. I left the small fountain in to aerate the water a but as it runs on low light. My understanding is that...

Damp house! How do I rectify?

There are thousands of houses where I grew up that are like this - the roofs slope parallel to the road, and aren't stepped horizontal. Which I assume is why the back looks wonky because the extension roof is horizontal :). Not that it helps with the damp.

Damp house! How do I rectify?

I know nothing about building but it looks like you don't have a drainpipe out the back and your gutter has a low point at the join just next to the small window. Maybe it overflows in heavy rain onto the roof below, hence the dark patch on the wall at that point? This probably doesn't help...

    Cooker hood 'legal' height

We will most likely do this even though my very tall husband can't see the hob in that case :). We really should just remove the cupboard and put a proper cooker hood! At least we didn't wire it to the light switch..

    Cooker hood 'legal' height

We have it set up like your photo but at 50cm. Honestly, if you use the front ring it doesn't draw the steam, which goes up the front of the cupboard and has already started to make the carcass laminate (or whatever it is called) swell. Yes it looks nice, no it isn't practical. If I were doing...

    Did we touch a wire?

@blip That would have avoided a lot of worry if I had known that!

    Did we touch a wire?

Thank you all. I had a look at it this morning. I couldn't see any wires that we could have touched, all the wires were still free in the void and out of the way. The bracket was no longer showing voltage, so I think that I had used the tester wrongly (I admit to not reading the instructions...
