Thanks for the replies. The lid switch appears to be functioning fine. We've called out a service tech. It will be a few days, though.

I've looked up info for troubleshooting our problem (our 3-yr old Whirlpool washing machine won't spin) but I am wondering if the solutions are something that we should attempt ourselves or call someone out for. Is it difficult to repair the washer ourselves? We are not the best at fix-it...
