    Plaster coming away from ceiling

I have recently had an extension built and am largely happy with it. It has a vaulted ceiling. At the edges of the ceiling (the last 30cm) I have a problem with circles of plaster coming away from the ceiling where the plasterboard is screwed to the rafters. The screws seem to be popping off the...

    tile cladding

They appear to be non porous. They have a texture like coarse sandpaper. They have redland stamped on the back of them and looks like they are made of cement. Not the most attractive things, but the thought of ripping them off fills me with fear. I have taken some off to fit a porch, and I...

    power to new out building

Thanks to everyone. I am struggling to source 4" conduit. I can only find 25mm, which is the biggest I can locate. Any advice on the size of cable I should use? It would be easy to lay it now and let an electrician connect it up some point in the future.

    power to new out building

Single phase lathe. 3Kw heater. PC, TV, Music, Lights, 0.5kw outside floodlight, Kettle, electric fan. Nothing too complicated and hugely power hungry. Thanks again

    power to new out building

thanks for the speedy replies. The building will be approx 50ft away from the consumer unit. The workshop will be nothing exceptional. I would like to squeeze in a lathe if possible, but everything else will be standard power tools. All 240v. What rating of cable should I buy and can you...

    extending outside tap by 100ft

I currently have an outside tap on the back of the house. I would like to put a new tap at the end of the garden (100ft). Can you help me with a few questions. 1. How do I extend from the pipe leaving the house, cost effectively. 2. I did think of burying a hosepipe, but can't work out how...

    power to new out building

I am just about to lay a patio and would prefer to dig a trench and lay cable (in a tube if possible so I can add other services as technology changes) to an outbuilding I would like to build in the next year or two. The outbuilding will be an office and workshop, approx 20 sq m. What cable...

    tile cladding

My house has some very dated green cladding tiles on the front. A have a few questions: 1. Can I paint them with masonry paint? 2. If I don't paint them, what is a cost effective alternative? Any ideas? I would prefer low maintenance. Many thanks

    New wooden porch

I would like to build a new porch approx 3m wide x 1m deep. Can anyone help me with a few questions? 1. Should I used tanalised timber or green oak? (100mmx100mm) 2. If green oak, does it shrink much and where is a good place to buy it from. 3. Most importantly...I want to mount the uprights...

    half full rads

probably talking out of my bum, but would the spring pressure cancel out 1M of static pressure from the header tank? Anyway, I welcome your advice on what I could do. I could take out the NRV but I can't work out why this is stopping my rads from filling up? And I the NRV is an a very...

    half full rads

Thanks for your advice. I had a plumber around to service the boiler and he recommended to move from a gravity fed to pumped system, for 450 quid. When probed further, he said I would be better off getting a non return valve from screfix for 4 quid. Is the spring in the NRV cancelling out the...

    half full rads

Help please!! I have moved into a house recently with an oil fired boiler and rads. It is a gravity fed system. When the hot water was on, the upstairs radiators were hot. I fitted a non return valve after the boiler to fix the problem, and also fitted thermostatic radiator valves. My...
