I have always understood that a well-constructed arch should be self-supporting. However, I suppose that depends on the state of the bricks, and I'm not qualified to comment on that I'm afraid.
A few days ago, we noticed some drips on the floor of the conservatory. Not much, but if left it could damage the floor.
This has only happened on a rainy day (obviously) but with a bit of wind.

Good advice. The wife tells me that her mother seems to leave the fire on for extended lengths of time. She (mother in law) is going a bit doolally into the bargain so, if it is possible, we could limit its output (if possible) or even replace it with one of lower power.
