Laying Engineered Boards Direct on Tiles

Thanks for all the replies. I suspected they might be asbestos containing tiles. I’ve taken the carpet up, and the tiles were generally in good condition, despite being 50 years old. Unfortunately when I pulled up the gripper rods all the tiles around the edge shattered. Unavoidable. I swept...

Laying Engineered Boards Direct on Tiles

Hi I’m about to lay an engineered wood floor in my living room. The original floor throughout the house, built 1970, is concrete. I expected concrete directly under the carpet, but as you can see, it’s tiled. I’m not sure what they are made of, but they are very thin. I wondered about...

    Shower Installation Costs

I know what 'DIY' stands for. I'm just seeking an idea of what it would cost if I chose not to 'DIY'. Is that OK with you?

    Shower Installation Costs

Absolutely, spot on. There's no obstacles, and the run might be something like 5 meters in total. There's a fused switch in the airing cupboard for the immersion. Any advances on £1200 plus VAT.? That's kind of what I was expecting.

Installing Shower from scratch with pump

I only moved in recently, so it’s not been serviced as yet. The firm who serviced it previously left broken bits of an asbestos flue in the attic. I asked them to quote for removing timer on the unit and got an estimate for six grand for a new unit, cylinder and tank. They didn’t even look at...

Installing Shower from scratch with pump

Thanks. You don’t say what problems.? I’m installing a gravity fed shower, with a pump. Not an electric power shower.

Installing Shower from scratch with pump

I’m embarking on a project (diagram attached) which involves taking out an old electric shower, taking out a bath, fitting new bath, then installing a gravity fed shower, with an electric pump attached. There are bits of this I would be confident with, and would loathe to pay anyone else to do...

    Getting a plumber

Thanks for all the replies. I’m in Reading. Definitely not a time waster. But, yes, I have got absolutely nowhere with this, so it’ll have to be approaching direct. Thanks

    Getting a plumber

Not really a DIY question, but a serious one. I’ll do whatever I can myself when I can, because I enjoy it, it’s cheaper, it gets done when I want it done, and if it’s less than perfect I have only myself to blame. But, occasionally there will be something that I look at, and say, you know what...

    Plumbing Dishwasher from scratch.

Hi Hugh Thanks. I’m most grateful for the advice. Do you think this would work (photo) if it was tee d into the pipe at the back of the where the dishwasher is going?. That pipe goes straight to a tap on outside wall. You can see the other end of it on the other attached photo. It’s got a valve...
