Yes, looks like it is, thanks for the input. I have put it all back together, and tested I am getting hot water only with CH switched off, and hot water to radiators with CH on. I can also just see the valve move as expected. Job done for £14, result, thanks, this is a great resource.

Thanks for the response, yes I got the whole head off in the end, it was the easiest way. I have taken the motor off, and it is not working, just loud buzzing and no movement when connected to the mains, so I have replaced it with the new one. However I suspect that the valve itself also...

My valve isn't working, it has been buzzing very loudly, not sure yet if it is the motor, powerhead or valve itself. I have bought a new motor as it was not expensive. My problem is the valve is mounted in a really inaccessible position, at arms length behind a load of pipes with the motor...

Did anyone ever confirm the output of the transformer? I have exactly the same problem and £124 for a new transformer is outrageous. Whether it is 12 or 14v doesn't make much difference, but is it AC or rectified to DC? The motor has a + mark on one terminal which makes me think it is rectified.
