Engineer called today, and fixed the boiler - it was the ignition electrode, which he replaced with a newer version, like the one here..
Said the newer part was made of stronger metal with less likelihood of the gap changing, and also with the return bar going over the top, if it did...
Posted about another subject, and remembered this post... Just revisiting this 6 months on.
The shower backed up again, but still hadn't gotten a wet vac. Tried some drain unblockers which didn't work, but ended up buying one of these...
They never asked when I made the first claim (last month), or earlier tonight, and there's nothing in the T&C's which states it must be to be valid (that's not an excuse for not doing it, just got forgotten).
All it says is that annual servicing isn't covered by the agreement, but I will be...
Cheers. I'm guessing the boiler itself is about 6 years old now, as the cover we have on it, we took up when the manufacturers (2 yr?) guarantee ran out, and the D&G extender cover offer came through in the previous owners name, so we changed it to ours.
First time I've had to use any of...
We have a Baxi Duo Tec Combi which was installed in the house when we bought it almost 5 years ago now.
Its been faultless all of that time, until early December 2013, when it began losing pressure and cutting out.
Luckily we have boiler cover with Domestic & General, so I called them they...
Well, I haven't gone down the wet vac route yet, but bought a couple of bottles of Mr Muscle drain foamer, and put one down the shower plug and the other down the bath plug... left them for an hour, and then poured boiling water down each.
After a little rinse and a plunge of the shower...
Ah right... the fact the problem seemed to be getting worse and recurring more often, I though it was potentially something more than a blockage.
I've tried plunging it too, but that just draws up a load of c**p from the pipe, and it doesn't make it drain any quicker.
There's also a bit of...
We moved into our house 4 years ago. The bathroom has a bathtub with a separate shower tray, with its waste connected into the bathtub waste.
About two years ago, the shower began to fill with water while the head was running, but when finished it would drain slowly away. Then we noticed when...
A further search via Google brought up this thread...

A couple if replies on there suggest that turning the pressure relief valve (the read one which only turns one way then clicks) isn't necessarily a good thing, as it doesn't always...
Had a search around and cant find an answer to this, so here goes...
We have a Vokera Excell SP80 combi boiler, about 12 years old now.
Earlier this week, had the hot tap running and the boiler seemed to be making a 'chugging' sound as the water flowed, and was heated.
Checked the...
Well, the boiler is (currently) working again, but I would still welcome hearing what you think is/was wrong with it.
Then, if it happens again, and I do need to get someone in, I can advise accordingly and see if they agree?
Cheers

EDIT: Something strange has happened - I got...
Having problems again with my Vokera Excell SP 80 Combi Boiler.
Turn on the hot tap, the microswitch clicks, the fan begins working, but the boiler doesn't 'fire up' - the pilot is lit.
This problem can be a bit intermittant - sometimes it will fire up straight away, other times it can...
Changed the diaphragm today ,however the old one wasn't perished, or even worn...looked almost as new as the one I put in!!
It appears the heating is playing up also.
Sequence of events...
Switch heating/water on...
Pump starts up...
Fan is working...
no hot water/heating...
Update: The heating is working, so it is just hot water that is the problem.
Tried to run the bath this evening, and even at a trickle, it only stayed hot for about 3 minutes before going cold.
I went down to check the combi, and it fired up again, the temp guage rose to about 65 degrees...
