    Where do I start?

No idea. It's a brown surface, which looks like some kind of plaster. What's the enclosure? Do you mean the concertina shower screen?

    Where do I start?

Hi Our bathroom grouting and silicon beading (is that the right word?) has looked grotty for years, and some of the tiles are loose (i.e. they're bouncy). Here's some video evidence: This weekend I intend to fix it! But I've never done this before, so I'm nervous. So where do I start? As...

    Attack Of The Shelf

IIRC, the screws go in to the wall but left with the head protruding a few millimetres, then the shelf 'hooks', or slides, on to those screws.

    Attack Of The Shelf

No, I meant rawlplugs, but those plasplugs you're suggesting look an awful lot better! Your advice looks excellent, thanks. I'll give it a go.

    Attack Of The Shelf

Many years ago I put up three book shelves in our bedroom. After a few years (literally years) one of them came down. So I put it back up. I don't recall exactly what remedial actions I took but two nights ago the shelf came down again, scaring the c**p out of us as we were asleep. At least i...

    De-creaking stairs...from above

Hello ...and welcome to my third thread of the day. Some of our stairs are creaky. Some of these I can fix from below, in the cupboard under the stairs, but some I can't unless I remove a load of plaster (and I'm not going to do that!) So, what can I do, beyond the talcum powder trick (which...

    Painting over damaged banisters

Hello To say our banisters need a lick of paint is putting it mildly. I'm not sure I have the energy, time, or skills to strip back the paint and do the job properly, but we do need to do something to stop them looking so, well, crappy. This Flickr album demonstrates some issues I have...

    Lifting the carpet

Hello We've been living here over 20 years without replacing the carpet in the hall, stairs, and landing. It's looking very tired indeed, and is even a little dangerous near the dining room door, so it's time for it to go, but we can't afford new carpet. Still, I'm thinking I might go ahead...

    Finding matching tiles

About five years ago Moben fitted us a new kitchen. The new (floor level) cupboards aren't as deep as the old ones, which isn't an issue in itself, except that we discovered that the floor tiles don't go all the way to the walls, which means the floor drops a centimetre or two or three or maybe...

How can I sell my doors?

We've had a new front door and a new bathroom door fitted. The old doors were left with us. I was just going to dump them until our neighbour pointed out they have resale value. But I'm blowed if I can find out how/where I can sell them! Any advice?

Stupid rain stupid leaking in to a stupid lean-to

Well, I finally got my brother up the ladder to have a look at the gutter ("finally" sounds harsh, after all, he does help me a lot and does have a working life of his own!) He found that the gutter is NOT cracked or damaged but that it was just caked up with the gritty/sandy substance that...

Stupid rain stupid leaking in to a stupid lean-to

Thanks all. Just to clarify, as it's not clear from the video, the render does 'skirt outwards' from the wall and over the plastic roof. So, the plastic roof where it meets the house is UNDER the render. It seems to properly direct the water away from where the lean-to roof meets the wall...
