    Ripples in Bent Pipe

Hello, I was wondering if a ripple in a bent pipe as per the photo below (cheap bender and thin pipe I guess) is likely to cause a problem long-term? Other than not looking very good, is it going to be weakened to the point it will spring a leak in the future? Thanks!

    Possible Cable Fault?

Hello, I have had a problem occur in the bathroom whereby I was getting a strange tingle on broken skin while washing my hands in the bathroom. It felt faintly electrical so I switched the electricity of at the breaker and lo and behold it went away. The only place where electricity could have...

Cables in wall and behind wall mounted cabinet

Thanks for your response. While I'm not an electrician, I am an electronic engineer and confident in what I am doing but have no access to the regulations (unless it's available online somewhere?) and am not familiar with what is considered best practice etc. The reason I asked about cables...

Cables in wall and behind wall mounted cabinet

Yes, there's a gap of about 20mm between the back of the cabinet and the wall. It's not that I don't want to protect them it's more a question of whether the regulations require it? Once my aging rewireable fuseboard has been replaced it will be RCD protected. In the meantime it would be...

Cables in wall and behind wall mounted cabinet

Hello, As I understand it, when running cables in walls, the regulations stipulate that only cables buried at a depth of less than 50mm require protection? Although it would of course be sensible to protect cables buried greated than 50mm too as screws are getting longer these days! :) If a...

    Bathroom Insulation

Does it have to be home made or would instant do? How about lumps - would that affect thermal resistance? Assuming I can't source enough custard or it leaks out of the bottom of the wall, are you implying 60mm foam boards are not worth the effort?

    Bathroom Insulation

Hello, I'm in the middle of renovating my bathroom and after stripping it back to the brick I have built stud frames over the walls which will be covered in cement board prior to tiling. Two walls are external (2 courses of brick and render on the outside), one is a party wall and the other a...

    Concealed Shower Valve Plumbing

Hello, Just about to install a new concealed shower valve in my bathroom and was pondering the best way of plumbing into it. The valve has 3/4" connections for the hot and cold inlet and 1/2" connections for the outlets. I thought I could use these end feed tap connectors with a suitable...

Towel Radiator Dual Fuel T-Piece Problem

So in the end I got hold of a couple of radiator tails and 3/4" to 1/2" reducer bushes and attached the T-piece via those and can tighten in the correct position using the nuts. Adds a little bit of height to it but nothing too bad.

Towel Radiator Dual Fuel T-Piece Problem

Not quite at that stage yet - just dry fitting so I can get all the pipes in the right place. If you tighten it as tight as it can go it's quite a way off facing the right direction and if you wind it back to the next best it's still a little wobbly so may be a bit too much for PTFE to deal...

Towel Radiator Dual Fuel T-Piece Problem

Hello, In the process of installing a dual fuel kit to a towel radiator and can't for the life of me get the t-piece to line up in a sensible direction and be anywhere near tight enough to be water tight. The supplier of the kit claim that this is the first time they've heard of this problem...

    Potential Chimney Stack Issue

Just localised damp where water has got behind the tiles. I guess without chipping the render away on the outside it's impossible to know what it's hiding. There was an old window that I uncovered and looks like there may have been an exterior door in the end wall so I suspect it was done to...

    Potential Chimney Stack Issue

Thanks both. Walls were stripped as I need to re-tile and the boards under the old tiles were wet and had their day. Planning on using marble tiles so need to replace with some Hardiebacker or similar for the extra weight anyway. There was a polythene sheet between the boards and...

    Potential Chimney Stack Issue

Hello, I've started to gut my bathroom (single storey addition to a victorian terrace) and now all the plasterboard is off I can see where the chimney stack has been removed in the past and it doesn't look too good to me. My main concern is that the lintel over the window is sitting on a...
