securesparkis right what are the implications of putting in a cable that is too large
i would think that putting in a cable that is larger than is needed is a much better option than putting one in that that is only just for the requirements stated
i appreciate cost would come into it but...

i dont think i will be expanding in the future if i put in 10mm2 for a run of 7/8m what sort of stuff can i run without overloading it or would i be ok with 6mm2 there wont be any welding or heavy drilling etc
seem to be getting a lot of conflicting info throughout this and previous posts...
i was wondering what size swa cable to put in whether to be 2.5mm2 or 4mm2
i will only be running couple of sockets 2 lights ,electric garage door outside socket and some low voltage lights
as i said before want to put cable in now then connect later in the year
what is the concencus on this...

do u think a leccy would have any reservations about me putting in the cable im thinking along the lines of part p regs and certifying the work off
i can understand people not wanting the job halfway through/finishing the job off so to speak it will just make my life alot less...

2 lights poss flouresent
electric garage door
outside socket and some low voltage garden lights poss 3/4 20w

its as crafty says service fuse then meter then switch fuse then wires going to the CU
so if i have got this right the electrician would prob put in a henley block after the switch fuse with a pair of tails to the CU (as now) and another pair to a MCB from which the SWA goes to the garage just...

the box before the meter does so i presume that this is the service head as you say

at the moment there are a pair of wires and an earth that go from the meter into a grey box with a fuse in it(is this a Henley block?)
from this two similar sized wires and an earth run to my CU inside my house( i presume)
would the electrician have to change this "grey box" and put a...
the consumer unit is in the middle of house
originally the mains came up the side of house and into the meter
then i had an extension built on the side the fuse box was replaced with the cu close to original box and had a new meter box on the side of the extension along with a new gas meter...

if they wont let anyone put an enclosure in the meter box where else can it go then my box is on the outside wall and there is nowhere else to put anything without having to put a hole in the wall and i def dont want to do that!
