What have you been doing today?

Track day at the old Aintree GP circuit with the Liverpool Motor Club. I took the Grantura now it is running to give it a drive out, as it's not road legal, so I'd not been able to test drive it properly. I thought I would probably breakdown during the day (as car has been pretty much untouched...

    What’s wrong with this DRIVEWAY

I think you’re just trying to get out of paying him with spurious complaints over minor issues. You will get nowhere with trading standards with he said, she said.

    What’s wrong with this DRIVEWAY

Looking at the width of gaps in the sand between the blocks, they might be semi permeable pavers - that would mean a soakaway would not be needed. Do you know what blocks were used? I am going largely against the grain here, but it does not look like a terrible or a cowboy job. It certainly...

    What’s wrong with this DRIVEWAY

I’d definitely be concerned with the lack of the soakaway, but you’ve obviously let them continue with the job. The haunching looks strong enough to hold the drive. I’d suggest you build up the adjacent flowerbed with soil for aesthetic purposes. Not a terrible job for £5.5k. You gets what you...

    What have you bought today?

Did you get to have a fiddle before you bought them Mottie? We have very similar Neff ones. The user interface is not great on our ones. We had the microwave first, so when we got ovens we made sure we got ones with actual dials to control the temp and the function. Ours are 2 years old, so...

    Soakaways and minimum distances

I was allowed to connect the drain channels connected directly to the rainwater drains. I spoke to BC before I did it, and they were fine with me doing so.

    New Car Battery Plant

This is entirely accurate. My own company provides IT services via the AWS (Amazon) cloud. Most customers choose Ireland for the DC even though they are UK based. Makes no difference to user performance and the e EU location ticks the box for data protection concerns. However we also use DCs...

Shifting a pallet of tiles from A to B...

I’ve used Palletways before. Not terribly expensive- they have their own pallet trolley

Wondering why today’s storm is nameless

Many insurance policies will state that winds must be x mph (usually 50-60mph) before you can claim for storm damage (lost roof tiles, etc). Not heard of any that specifically required storms to be named but there's always new policies/products on the market...

Wondering why today’s storm is nameless

Is this still Kathleen seems a while ago that one? That’s my point, if this is not Kathleen, it’s causing more damage than other named storms.

Wondering why today’s storm is nameless

Seem the criteria for naming storms comes from the impact they can cause. Today’s storm has been pretty bad (at least here in liverpool), and seems combined with high tides has caused flooding around the country…but yet the storm remains nameless. BTW I think the idea of naming storms is...

Banned from posting in some threads. What is the reason or explanation for this?

Is it correct that you’re new brand to the forum? If you don’t like the way the forum is moderated, or the opinions of other longstanding members, there’s a simple solution. Just quit the forum. Find somewhere else that you like better. Don’t return.

Slow going - my double storey extension build

Wow, been a while since I last updated the thread. That’s because the house was largely finished so we’ve been living in it. My project over the autumn and winter has been to replace the decking at the rear of the house and to build a fancy pergola with a louvred roof for an ‘outdoor’ room...

The 'Your Projects' seems to have turned into a Q&A forum.

Agreed. I guess mostly it’s new users (which are good for the forum) not realising that their daily diy task that they need help with isn’t a project in this context. Mods used to move the topic to the right place, but seem to have given up now...

    What have you bought today?

I bought a Timmy Mallet painting. (One painted by him, rather than a painting of him :) )
