i need to change my 3 port mid position valve on my system it has a potterton valve on at the moment but are these valves universal and can i put a different make on ie honeywell

thanks for your reply ,just switched valve to ch only but nothing happened ,if the valve is switched to manual and i pull the switch shouldnt i hear the motor winding if its ok
