One single bog standard room light!!!! It already had a dimmer switch on it that was broken but still dimming. This was supposed to be a temporary fill in until I get a new one!

Just been and tried that. I get a slight dimming but hardly noticable.

o.k., I have tried every combination now, and still the dimmer doesn't work. From all the postings I have read, i have understood that it doesn't matter which way round the black and red go, so long as they are not both in L1 & L2, or both not etc.. I know the switch was working two weeks ago...

Thanks for that breezer, got the light working, but the dimmer won't work.The unit has an on/off swith as well as a dimmer 'wheel'. The switch turns the light on and off but he wheel doesn't do anything. I have connected the black to fixed load terminal and red to L1.

I have a dimmer switch with the terminals L1, L2, variable load and fixed load. Where do the black and red wires go please? The switch I am removing has 1,2 & 3, with the wires in 1 & 3.
