Don't cut into that cable as the outside pir light may not work as it will require a neutral which is most prob not in that cable. It sounds like a switch drop which contains 2 lives and no neutral. Find somewhere with a live neutral and earth on lighting circuit and feed a switch from this...

Has the old one got anything stamped into it ie. COM where the wires are terminated?
