    Storing petrol mower over winter

Ok thanks - how about starting it a few times over the winter? My pal says he does this just to keep it ticking over.

    Storing petrol mower over winter

I've just got my first petrol mower - a Champion. It's done me well over the summer, but what's the best way to keep it stored in the garage over the winter? I know to check there's no petrol left in it, but any other tips/hints so I don't knacker it completely and need an expensive service come...

Best sander for recycled scaffolding planks

I'm building some raised beds from old scaffolding planks, but need to sand the worst of the cr*p off first and make them semi-presentable before staining etc. I've got 30 planks to do, all in pretty shoddy nick. I'm going to buy a belt sander at the weekend and have a budget of about £100 -...

    Insulate between eaves too?

Cheers Fred - that might be Plan B! To give you some idea of what I found, most of the old 'insulation' consisted of old newspaper, with some carpet thrown on top.

    Can I insulate walls?

The exterior walls of my cottage (1920s build) are double brick construction, so cavity wall insulation is a no-no. Interior walls are very old lath and plaster, with wallpaper on top. Is there anything I can do to insulate the rooms further?

    Insulate between eaves too?

I've just finished insulating my cottage out in the wilds of Scotland. I laid 200mm space blanket on top of the (very) old and (very) thin insulation, then boarded on top. Pipes and water tank duly lagged too. However, as it gets so cold in winter, is there anything else I can do? Is...

    Making old garage watertight

Not really any 'pooling' around it - although there is a small raised bank of earth (an old veg plot I think) on the back wall which I was going to remove, leaving the wall clear...good idea?

    Making old garage watertight

My garage (an old livestock shed) is about 30 years old. Two exterior walls are single brick, rendered and whitewashed on the outside, bare brick inside. Roof is great - not a drip comes through. Floor is concrete. Door is brand new, up-and-over, watertight. Remaining wall is breeze blocks...
