Could you use a fence post extender, like these things?:

The website reckons it can extend the fence up by a metre which would cover your change I think.
Thanks for your advice. Changing the frames is probably pushing my DIY ability a bit far, so I may ask the joiner that fitted my other windows to take a look at that for me.
Well, that's good to know
Perhaps I could start a craze for empty water butts? Fill it in with concrete or something?
...back on topic, will it smell if it's filled with water and in sunlight?
Hi,
I'm looking at installing a water butt in my garden. My house faces due south and is a terrace. This means the only place I can install one is on a south facing wall, in direct sunlight.
Is this likely to mean that it will start to smell as bacteria begins to develop? I was thinking of...
I figured it would probably make more sense to replace the whole unit as I could then have the more modern, thicker glass and also UPVC coated frames. They aren't too pricey to replace, as long as I can do it myself :-)
The frames are fine - just need painting. The glazing unit itself is not - the seals have gone, leading to condensation and mould appearing. I think the newer units have thicker glazing too, so it may keep more heat in.
Thanks for your advice.

Will be paying them a visit at the weekend :)
Hi,
My house has a few Velux windows that were fitted about 20 years ago and are now in a bad state of repair. I was thinking of replacing them with new units from Velux, and have established which ones I need.
Should it be as simple as tilting the window all the back, lifting it out, and...

What's the best trick to paint the woodwork in this situation, that hopefully doesn't involve lifting the...
I'm having a similar problem.. how much gravel would I need in a 5metre by 3 metre plot...
Also in a bog standard garden with a small lawn and bit of decking next to a glass conservatory, would it look tacky to use coloured gravel?
Want to make the garden a bit vibrant.. thinking maybe a...
