    Radiator/hot water temperature

Hi, This evening the boiler stayed on for a lot longer and therefore the radiators got really hot banging out lots of heat and the hot water will have been nicely heated also. I hadn't changed anything, so not sure why it should suddenly do this. Does anybody have any ideas? I don't know...

    Radiator/hot water temperature

Do you have any suggestions as to why it would suddenly work really well and then go back to being just warm? Could this be a partial blockage that cleared then partially blocked again? Thanks

    Radiator/hot water temperature

I put central heating cleaner a year ago, left it for a month and drained down and let it run through. It also got drained down for a repair earlier this year. You say it could be the pump sludged up, this was replaced a year ago, is there anything I can do to improve this do you think? Many thanks

    Radiator/hot water temperature

The colour is quite clear with a tinge of brown to it. It has been drained down a couple of times with centralheating cleaner in it. I've had different views on the powerflush option, one plumber thought the system was clean and didnt recommend it, the chap from eon always recommends it, however...

    Radiator/hot water temperature

Hi, Our radiators don't appear to be getting as hot as they used to be and neither does the hot water. We have an Ideal Gas Boiler with a hot water cylinder upstairs which is a unvented indirect cylinder I think. The boiler fires up ok and hot water leaves the boiler, the boiler stays on for...

    Water hammer questions

Hi, Just thought i'd update the thread. I couldn't find any loose pipes. However (touch wood) the banging has stopped, the only thing I have done is replace the thermostatic shower mixer bar. To do this I turned the stopcock off and drained some of the water down before replacing it, since...

    Water hammer questions

Thanks. By the stop tap I assume you are referring to the stopcock tap under the kitchen sink in our case? We don't have a Cold Water Storage Cistern and the taps appear to be all fine. I've managed to get a hand to the cold water pipes in the bathroom but can't feel any vibration, I guess...

    Water hammer questions

Thanks for all your replies. The banging noise seems to occur just on the cold water. I've prised up a floorboard to look at the pipes and couldn't see any movement when we also got the banging noise. I've found it tricky to locate the exact source of where the noise is coming from, although...

    Water hammer questions

Hi, We're currently suffering with a water hammer problem where we get a loud bang/clunk noise when we turn the cold/hot water on or off. This can happen from any tap in the house. We never used to have this problem and I can't seem to get rid of it. I've tried draining down the cold water...

    Noisy central heating system

Hi, I tried to open the valve by turning the screw on the top but no air came out. I then took off the valve but no air came out either but i'm sure there must be air in the system still. Apologies for the duplicate post, not sure how that happened. Thanks

    Noisy central heating system

Hi, I recently drained down the central heating system and refilled including inhibitor. However since doing this a few weeks ago there seems to be lots of air in the pipework/hot water cylinder which is now very noisy. I've been bleeding the radiators ever since but this doesn't seem to have...

    Radiator heating dilema

Just a bit more information. Noticed that the hot water wasn't all that hot any more. So just tried the HW heating on its own and the HW is now hotter than its been for a while. The CH & HW are usually set to come on at the same time. Thanks

    Radiator heating dilema

Ok, i'll not go for another bottle of x400. I've looked at the motorised valves and they are the 2 way Honeywell type on a straight run of pipe. There doesn't seem to be any spring resistance at all on either of them when sliding the switch towards the catch. I'm sure thinking about it there...

    Radiator heating dilema

Thanks again Hugh. I'll check the pump, though there does appear to be a small amount of hot water getting through but only enough to heat the top of the radiators. I wondered about adding another bottle of X400 to see if that helps, bearing in mind there are 2 bottles in there already. Also...
