thanks for your info luminaire. I have sorted it out and it was the common wire in the wrong place!

In replacing the above, the old switch serving 2 living room lights is wired as: left side- 1x red wire at terminal 1 linked to terminal 1 on right side (live) left side- 1x red wire at terminal 2. right side- 1x black wire with red sleeve at terminal 2 (switched live) back box earthed. All...
