Any ideas folks as to what could be causing my inlaws combi to go hot and cold on the hot water and now it is heating the rads when heating HW too. The boiler is no more than 3 years old sorry not sure of exact model. Thanks Mike.

I am about to change the 3 way valve on our system as each time the hot water is heated the rads get hot. i'm quite sure it has been corroded by hard water and so it's likely that there will be scale in other parts of the system as we don't seem to get much more than a few inches of bath water...

I can see your point guys but the TRV is set to max and it is this room that appears cold before the heating fires. Apart from removing the TRV whats the best setting for both the stat and TRV that we should use to get best performance with what we've got?

what is the reason for not having a TRV near the stat?

The pipework is as it was before i replaced the valve and it doesn't so much vibrate as make a woosh sound once every second as it fills.I will check to make sure it hasn't moved round as i have tightened the cooper nut.

Right...have fitted the new room stat didn't make a bit of difference when i fired the boiler up it began to heat the rads even though the room stat was right down so i guess the 3 way valve is stuck anything i can do to it or is it £75 for a new one?

the existing stat has 3 wires red,blue and yellow so have bought a Honeywell 6360 which if i'm right will do the job but have trierd to order a replacement stat for the boiler but am struggling to find one.
