Potterton Profile 80e keeps shutting down

That's the problem. I can't bleed any air from the rads and I've done the glass of water under the vent pipe and the level didn't change.

The instructions on the bottle are pretty vague. It says to leave in for at least 2 hours or for best results overnight and then says it can be dosed up to 3 weeks prior to draining. So 2 hours, 24 hours, 3 weeks or 5 weeks? It's confusing and I felt a week should do, too late now though...

A quick update on my problem. I ended up getting a plumber round and he agreed that there was air in the system and suggested draining down and refilling 'bottom up' from the draincock. I did this with a bottle of Sentinal X400 cleaner and left it for a week. Then I drained down, flushed a...

I don't think it's boiling as the noise isn't that loud. It's more like a large amount of air releasing and it glugs up into the flow pipe. Difficult to explain via a keyboard.... I'm wondering if the automatic vent (which is situated on the return just before the boiler) is sucking air in...

That's a good question Bernard, and I don't know for sure to be honest.... Although I think it's probably air, as the boiler gives a glug like its releasing a large bubble of air, which then gets broken up as it passes through the pump sounding like a stream of small bubbles...... If that...

Surely it's the overheat stat that's shutting the boiler down?

I've had another go at this today. Firstly I went along the feed/vent pipe with a magnet and found nothing. Then I drained the system and it drained down quickly and there was good pressure coming out of the hose. After that I untied the ballcock and let it flow through the system for a...

Will a fridge magnet do? I put a bottle of Primaflow cleaner in when I refilled it on Friday, but I'll get a bottle of Sentinel tomorrow for when I refill again.

Yes. I ran it for a while last night with the bleed screw off and some air came out, but mostly water dribbling out.

Potterton Profile 80e keeps shutting down

So I've run the system this evening with the vent pipe over the F/E tank in a glass of water and all that happens is that the water level goes up and down a few millimeters. I'd discounted a blockage in the cold feed pipe as it drained down and filled up again, but I may have another look at...

Potterton Profile 80e keeps shutting down

It has a combined feed vent (Y plan?) and I did wonder about a blockage but it drained down and refilled without any issues.... The feed/vent pipe is tee'd just after the outlet from the boiler and before the pump and I can't see what speed the pump is on as it's tucked behind the cylinder...

    DHW has no pressure

Another good suggestion thanks! This ones in a rental, so I won't be able to get there until next week. So now I've got a couple more things to check before I call the plumber. Thanks again!

No, but had new 3 way valve about 3 years ago.

Potterton Profile 80e keeps shutting down

I'm really puzzled by this. How in an open vented system can air get in? and why is it not venting out via the F/E tank? Although I'm not an expert and I might be wrong, my feeling is that the boiler is OK as it runs fine for about 20 minutes and then air starts glugging and the boiler shuts...

    DHW has no pressure

Not especially. The boiler that this one replaced was a 20 year old Worcester combi which went on and on with no problems, until it eventually died from a leaking heat exchanger. I think modern boilers are crap! I'll try taking the strainers off the taps to see if that makes a difference...
