Anyone got a Mira Essentials (Newstyle) Manual Power Shower?

Hi, Wondering if anyone has any experience of these showers? We've had it for a few years now, all working fine. About 6 weeks ago, the microswitch that turns the shower on and controls the pump rate broke. I ordered the part and replaced it, all worked fine. Until today, when the same...

    Three port valve question

Hi, I have a three-zone system, one HW, one radiator CH, and one zone underfloor heating (ground floor). The HW and CH are controlled by a 3-way valve, the UFH by a separate 2-way valve. It's all working fine, though was only installed a week or two ago. My question is, what position is...

    Gas pipe

Hi, I've got a corgi guy coming on friday to connect my boiler to a newly-moved gas meter. Helpfully, I've just discovererd that the builder has laid an unprotected copper pipe in a concrete floor, as the proposed gas connection. I'm pretty sure it's unsuitable and that we'll have to use...

    Secondary return

Thanks - that has been _really_ helpful! In terms of insulation, if the return pipe is run in plastic does is there much benefit in extra insulation? Whilst we're at it, is it also worth insulating the main hot pipe too? Thanks again!

    Pipe sizing

Sorry, it wasn't clear! I meant the 22mm pipe out of the cylinder, but not the 22mm tees off it. So the outlet from the cylinder would step up to 28mm, then down again closer to the showers.

    Pipe sizing

Hi, I have a 210L unvented cylinder with a 22mm feed coming out of it, connected to (in order) - cloakroom hot tap (15mm tee) - kitchen hot tap (15mm tee) - bathroom shower (22mm tee) - en-suite shower (22mm tee) A plumber (looking at something else) told us that we might get a...

    Secondary return

Replumbing is not an issue as we're sorting out the bathroom and it's all exposed. I started thinking about it just because of water usage - wasting at least 6L every time the hot tap is turned on did not seem right. The power usage on these pumps is miniscule, right? Wilo pump looks...

    Secondary return

    it's a sealed system

    Secondary return

Hi, I've been googling around for this without much success. What's the guideline for when a secondary return/circulating circuit should be used on a hot water system? In my house, if I turn the furthest shower/tap from the HW cylinder on (an en-suite shower room), it's 6L of water in...

Running cable through a partition wall

Thanks, that's really useful. Have you ever tried connecting several extenders together? Potentially I might need to drill a noggin one metre up from the switch itself, which would be three extenders end-to-end. But perhaps that's just a silly idea....

    Garden water supply

Sorry, by outdoor water supply, I meant the tap in the back garden (not the incoming main!) I have some fittings for connecting it to normal plumbing, so that should not be too difficult. Good point about opening the tap in the winter though - will need to remember to do that...

Running cable through a partition wall

Hi, I want to run a cable down from the ceiling, through a partition wall to a new light switch. Is there a tool that I can use to drill through the noggins, without opening up the plasterboard? I.e. something I can insert through a hole the size of a single backbox? Would love to avoid...

    Garden water supply

Hi, I have a long (25m) garden, and also about 20m of 16mm PEX pipe left over from an underfloor heating installation. I'm thinking of burying it down one side of the garden, with one end connected to the outside water supply and the other end finished as a tap/hose fitting. It won't see...

    Builders' bad wiring

Thanks all for your responses. I traced the cable from where it enters the CU up to the junction box (this is easy from the floor below), there are definitely no spurs before the junction box. There's definitely nothing else connected to the MCB. It was a new circuit. Changing the cable...
