Just curious ... how do you know that it is not turning?

The spray arms on my maytag washer frequently get clogged by large particles such as toothpicks, plastic bags, etc. I know, I know ..... this stuff should be scraped off of the dishes prior to being loaded but: How does this large debris get up into the spray arm? Should the filter not...

If it is the same as my Maytag, the "clover leaf" looking tab will unscrew the arm completely. It is a bit difficult to grasp but it will screw out conterclockwise.
