    Wireless alarm

I am no expert but it looks like a DIY product, it doesn't appear to be graded and it seems like the wireless communication is just one way. It is also surprisingly expensive, I got a wireless Texecom Grade 2 kit for £240 (inc a extras like the backup battery) which is a professional alarm...

Ricochet wireless PIR(s) not working correctly

All working perfectly now, it turns out I wasn't leaving the system long enough to wake up, did a walk in test and the PIRs function perfectly. Just got to wire up a Pyronix internal sounder/speaker now :) and then attach the bell box. Texecom support have been brilliant with a couple of...

Ricochet wireless PIR(s) not working correctly

Yep sorry I should have said when I set the alarm, one of the PIRs doesn't work, only about 10% of the time I can get it to trigger the alarm. The other PIRs seem to work fine although just a little bit slow to react compared to the wired ones. I also deleted the faulty PIR from the system and...

Ricochet wireless PIR(s) not working correctly

As an experiment I took an old wired PIR I knew was working, I then touched the sensor to put finger prints all over it and also put a bit of pressure on it for good measure. I then hooked it up to a 12v DC supply and it still worked perfectly (or at least still still worked as a detector) so I...

Ricochet wireless PIR(s) not working correctly

I learnt all the devices and everything worked, I did a movement test with the PIRs in the rooms but not attached to the walls and they all triggered the alarm, then I put one PIR up on the wall and it was dead. It would not detect any movement (or rather heat!) even if I waved right next to...

When did earth sleeving become the norm?

This house was wired in 1980 and there wasn't any sleeving to be seen any where, all the earth wires were bare. I have sleeved them when I have changed sockets etc. At least the lighting circuit is earthed though!

Can't find replacement floor boards at the right depth.

I tried their branch in Sale a few weeks back but they looked at me a bit blank when I asked if they could cut the timber to the right depth. Maybe the one in Oldham can I will phone them. Thanks.

    Spot the (deliberate?) mistake

When I read that the first thing that came to mind was no mention of test equipment! When was it written 1925?

Can't find replacement floor boards at the right depth.

I have been slowly working on the bathroom, the project started when the plaster next to the old cistern was crumbling away and the cistern was a horrible old 1980's thing anyway. I put in a new plasterboard wall and also put in a new cistern, the problem is during that I removed the old...

Max current on a two plug socket - appliances

But they are only officially tested to 13 amps aren't they? I know the ones I have fitted have always said 13 amps max on it.

    RCBO Socket anyone?

As I am sure many know I am not a spark, but have an interest in electronics and run an IT support company repairing laptops and desktops. I do my own basic electrical work in the house (replacing sockets etc) but I have been fighting for a long time to get the sale of cheap crap like this...

    Watchdog tonight

There was just no need not to turn the electricity off was there before opening the FCU. At very the very least she should have isolated that circuit and would have still had light. He didn't seem the type to have a look, he seemed the type to just dig straight in to hell with the...

Max current on a two plug socket - appliances

Each socket can only supply 13 amps max regardless of how many outlets are on the socket. The circuit however can handle a lot more depending on how it is wired.

    What elbow connector for cistern?

Brilliant thanks a lot :) Now ideally I need to try and find a 400mm one, buy they seem rare at the best times, if not a 300mm should just about fit.

    What elbow connector for cistern?

Do flexis with elbows exist? That would solve the problem I will google it now :). I just assumed they didn't exist and would to get a female tap connector eblow joint or something.
