    New Roof and Tile Discolour

Thank you for the responses. Interesting but it seems only some roofs are affected with lichen not all. Can I take any preventative measures to reduce the lichen? Googling brings up people recommending metals/lead flashing to prevent it happening, apparently chemicals washing off the lead...

    New Roof and Tile Discolour

Just an update... I spoke to Marley and they say it is most likely mortar not mixed correctly and over time its leaking down from the ridge and suggested 3 to 1 of Sand and Cement mix. So don't know if that it the cause and mortar is not likely to be yellow like in the photo is it?

    Quality of Extension Workmanship

Thank you all for your input I haven't questioned the builder yet whether he has put something underneath to support each joist but I wanted to ask some expert advice here before I confront him. The mortar that runs along the bottom of the old bricks is around 2" thick but some of the...

    Quality of Extension Workmanship

thanks tony1851 As shown in the first pic, the 2 inch mortar continues all the way along the 18ft wall so I was worried maybe its not strong enough or over time it may get weaken and crumble due to its thickness. Do you think also that where the joists are placed there should be something...

    Quality of Extension Workmanship

Could someone please offer some advice. I am having an extension and some of the joists have been installed and I am wanting to know if they look o.k? The builder seems to have used about 2 inch thick mortar to level the joists and I need to know if this is good practice. He has also used...

Thank you all for your replies. I understand the need for a solid structure however I have seen lots of extension with bi fold and windows placed in the corner. Are these done with steel lintels at right angles in the corner to allow for the removal of the corner wall? I think I will...

Thanks dann09 for the very quick response. My kitchen is about 1.5m longer than the living room, so between the 1.5m wall I wanted to stick a windows of about 2400mm high and at the moment the architect suggest maximum 600mm width and I am wondering if its worth paying over £500 quid for...

    Window placement on extension

Hi Folks, I am hoping someone can offer some advice. I am trying to understand about window placements on an extension. I had a quick chat to my architect but didn't have time to discuss at length about a window placement that I want in my kitchen. He says minimum space I need to from the...

WICKES FROST PROOFER AND RAPID HARDENER

Thanks xdave, By sodium chloride you mean I can use normal salt to test? I have asked the builder unfortunately his not too technical in these matters he just uses it to speed up the process. The other thing puzzles me is that these wall ties are quite small things how much bearing they...

WICKES FROST PROOFER AND RAPID HARDENER

Thanks xdave, Having looked on the product it states not recommended to use with embedded metals...I assume that could mean wall ties also. I also checked the mortar and it still soft and hasn't set from yesterday so the stuff hasn't worked anyway. My only real concern is longevity of...
