hi i have a w b 280 and have seen a new heat exchange for a 281 would it be the same?

can n e 1 help me my boiler is being a pain ,when i run a bath half way though it sort of makes a cranking out noise and the water goes cold its like it is siezing up , i have had one plumber say this is due to the heat exchange being past it so can n e 1 else advise thanks
