Vaillant VCW 242 EH water section pressure vessel

Hi! I have a Vaillant VCW 242 EH that is still going strong. I have had some little issues with hot water. I would like to know if the pressure vessel that is connected to the water section needs to have any pressure put into it??? I know the newer water sections do away with this vessel but...

Vaillant VCW 242 EH hot water query

Thanks Gasguru! That sorted the problem.:D(y) I could really do with someone who knows these boilers inside out, to sit down and give explanations of how all the parts work. I know it would end up being a huge book but would be really useful for people trying to diagnose things on these boilers...

Vaillant VCW 242 EH hot water query

DOH! Of course the vertical push rod operates the cam!!! This DOES work, operates the microswitch. The microswitch stays activated when the water pressure drops, however, the diverter valve gets drawn in and then goes into CH mode!!! And it doesn't always go back to DHW mode, even when the...

Vaillant VCW 242 EH hot water query

Are you talking about the microswitch on the servo?? It is adjusted such that only very small movement of the cam is needed to switch it. Not sure how these should be set. As for the vertical push rod! This comes from the top of the water section? Not sure about that! What exactly does it do...

Vaillant VCW 242 EH hot water query

All the small tubes are clear and servo has been swapped (I keep spares:D) However, when having a play I discovered that if I screwed the small tap (middle bottom) that looks like it controls the flow of hot water a bit, in, I could end up with NO hot water activating (switch on top of water...

Vaillant VCW 242 EH hot water query

Hi! I am having an issue with my hot water on a Vaillant VCW 242 EH boiler. The shower has started suddenly going cold. I can see what is happening and wonder if someone can point me in the right direction! When the hot water is switched on the microswitch on the water section is activated and...

    VCW 242 EH Diverter question?

I changed the diverter diaphragm! Hadn't been into the water section!:(

    VCW 242 EH Diverter question?

Thanks Guys!(y) Yes, have the manual for the settings.(y) Problem sorted!:D The water section pin was pushing the cam enough to trip the microswitch. But on closer inspection today I saw it was not pushing it any further. The workings of the servo valve obviously need pushing a bit further to...

    VCW 242 EH Diverter question?

Can you point me in the direction of these? I think my problem may lie with one of these. (y)

    VCW 242 EH Diverter question?

Yup, that is my understanding of it. Just confused why, on occasion, when drawing HW, the microswitch is activated, pump runs, but diverter doesn't always push OUT for DHW. Sometimes it even draws IN and CH runs! MUST be something in the servo not diverting the flow to diverter correctly!

    VCW 242 EH Diverter question?

It's on the back of the servo valve, on top of the water section! Yes, if the HTG is on, water flow (drawing DHW) through the water section operates a rod that moves a cam that trips a microswitch and should feed water through the servo valve to one side of a diaphragm in the diverter valve...

    VCW 242 EH Diverter question?

Thank you! The DHW microswitch is operating fine! There seems to be plenty of movement on the cam. It is the diverter valve that is reluctant to move out in DHW mode. In fact, the microswitch will operate and the boiler will fire but seems to go into HTG mode with the shower on (it draws less...

    VCW 242 EH Diverter question?

Hi! Does someone out there who knows these old boilers tell me, if I draw hot water, should this cause the diverter to move into DHW position regardless of whether the micro switch clicks in?? In other words, is it purely hydraulic action that moves the diverter valve into place??? And, if...

    Vaillant VCW 242 EH air???

It's been a while. I should get someone in but have a feeling I won't find anyone who won't just say, get a new boiler!
