Vaillant 418 going a bit wild

Hi, I showed the electrician your photograph and mentioned what you said. He said my boiler is older than yours, going by the photograph, but the problem was very similar in that a link that should not be there had been left in place. Also, the pump had been wired up in a rather unusual way...

Vaillant 418 going a bit wild

Thanks. If all goes according to plan, the electrician and the heating engineer will come by tomorrow. I'll run that past them,

Vaillant 418 going a bit wild

Hi, thanks for that. Is it basically pulling out a wee plug? If the electrician can't make it again I might have a go. Obviously switch of the electricity first and then start unscrewing obvious screws. I have the installation manual somewhere. Deconfusing the boiler would be a very good...

Vaillant 418 going a bit wild

Hi Mottie, just found your post of 2020 where you show the positition of the 24v link. I'll run that past the central heating man. I'm a bit reluctant to open up the boiler. Thanks for your help. Hi, that makes a lot of sense. I achieved communication with the CH man who said he'll speak to...

Vaillant 418 going a bit wild

Thanks. I do not know what the 24v link is or how to remove it but I can certainly mention it to the central heating man. I'll have a quick google...

Vaillant 418 going a bit wild

Hi, Good question. I became aware of it last year and spoke to the central heating man. He said he needed to come by with his electrician. I had another chat with him about 3 weeks ago when he said the same. So far no electrician. The system has played up from time to time so I find it...

Vaillant 418 going a bit wild

Hi, I have a Vaillant 418 boiler in a vented system with a hot water cylinder. There are two motorised valves. One is governed by a timer. If within the set time the water temperature falls below a set limit, the valve is activated by a thermostat in the cylinder. The other valve is governed by...

    Stelrad Classic or Halcyon?

Hi, I am thinking of replacing the central heating radiotors in my flat. They are very old and inefficient. On the internet, I have come across Stelrad Halcyon and Stelrad Classic. Just going from the photographs, they look very similar. Are they actually the same? Many thanks.

vaillant 418 does not heat flat

Thanks. I'll have the boiler serviced in February, and I'll ask the engineer to put one in.

vaillant 418 does not heat flat

The problem seems to be solved. A plumber who came to have a look at the boiler turned the manual bypass valve fully open. I have almost closed it, and the flat is heating up nicely. Any opinions as to how far this valve should be closed?

vaillant 418 does not heat flat

Thanks. The thermostat is in the coldest room of the flat, so I'm OK there I think. Will try to balance the radiators, but also thought I would have a look at the bypass valve. I think this should be only open a tiny bit, and I had a plumber in who may have changed that.

vaillant 418 does not heat flat

Thanks. I turned the power down to 10kw, which seems to have made a difference, in that the boiler tends to go on running for longer when it reaches its maximum flow temperature. The flat is still not warming up properly. The boiler was off for about 5 days, so the fabric of the flat is...
