    New plaster drying too quickly?

Finish was spot on to be fair, no cracks that I can see or tell of as yet so other than the speed of which it has dried everything seems fine. Timing does seem okay as well, he quoted £200 for the job but never mentioned about the detail. I just assumed he would have used pva as others have...

    New plaster drying too quickly?

Hi, We had one of our ceilings re-plastered yesterday. The ceiling had an artex fan pattern previously. The plaster is already drying out and is pretty much dry in most parts. Should this be a concern or red flag? I am concerned that the plasterer may have only skimmed over the ceiling and...

    New Plaster Fail

Sorry pal, misunderstood your previous reply. I’ll double check but from memory he did mention PVA so it sounds like that could be the issue.

    New Plaster Fail

He reassured me that he did and as mentioned the kitchen ceiling seems fine, however now I have my doubts. I'll check the rest of the bedroom ceiling to see if other areas sound hollow but there are definite patches that seem to have blown already. He did the kitchen first, so I wonder if he...

    New Plaster Fail

Update - I had a closer look this morning and parts of the ceiling sound hollow when knocked, part of the ceiling also moves when pressed. It all seems indicative to me that the bonding has failed or the new skim has not sealed to the old artex properly?

    New Plaster Fail

Yeah reading around it does seem there is a risk that it can come down. We had similar ceilings done last year in a box room and the living room which are fine so hopefully we’ve just been unlucky with that patch. I’ve checked the joists above where it feel and no signs of damp which could have...

    New Plaster Fail

Hi, We recently had our kitchen and bedroom artex ceilings skimmed. Both ceilings were left to dry out for 3 weeks before painting. The kitchen was fully re-decorated by a trade painter with no problems. However when I mist coated the bedroom ceiling this morning part of the ceiling cracked...

    Mould/Damp

Hi Guys, I want to tackle a persistent mould issue in our box room (second floor) which I believe looks like is being caused by condensation. However the wall affected is an external wall so I appreciate other factors could be causing it. House is a 1930’s semi with a full damp proof course...

    Vaillant Boiler - Losing Pressure

Thanks mate - I'll try isolating the towel rail for a couple of days and see if any difference in pressure. With regards to the safety discharge pipe, would this be the pipe that water will come out of if the PRV is letting water through? If so, am I right in thinking this will be outside...

    Vaillant Boiler - Losing Pressure

Hi, I wondered if I might be able to get a bit of advice before calling in a heating/boiler engineer. Apologies for what might be a long post but I wanted to try and give as much detail as possible. We have a Vaillant EcoTec Combi-boiler which has been losing pressure recently, around 0.1 bar...

    Boiler Pressure

Sorry, I meant the reason for the pressure now being slightly higher at 1.8 bar when cold. As you mention, probably just over pressured when refilling. Thanks for your help.

    Boiler Pressure

Thanks Terry, I was going to ask if bleeding the rads would help reduce pressure slightly. I'll do that. Is there any reason why this would happen? I assume he may have just topped the system up slightly too much?

    Boiler Pressure

Hi, I'm a relative novice regarding plumbing and boilers, I've had a quick look in the FAQ's but couldn't see anything that answered my question. We have recently had a new bathroom installed, as part of this the boiler system has been drained down a couple of times whilst the rads have been...

    Leaking Towel Radiator

Cheers mate - It is definitely the valve, I'm semi-confident with DIY but tend to leave plumbing alone apart from the basics. I'll probably get some quotes for a call out if it will involve draining the system etc.
