    Thanks for your reply Noseall, higher up is not accessible due to the ceilings on each side, which will be only 2 courses of brick above the top of new beam. Is it worth trying to put the needles through these? By needle I am guessing you mean a decent piece of metal through both walls...

    yes, my house - nothing would make me go near a wire in someone elses! I am building an extension and wiring up at the moment. I have an electrician organised to come and check over/sign off, but I want to get it right before electricain arrives. So are you sure about not needing bonding...
