Silcone sealant on top of Plumbers Mait...

I could try and make a wooden quadrant to fill most of the gap - and then put the silicon on the top of that. The trouble is, however I handle it, I'll still be left with a 10-15mm width of silicone at the top - which is a lot !!

Silcone sealant on top of Plumbers Mait...

I guess early failure is a definite possibility. I was just hoping to avoid having to scrape out all of the Plumbers Mait (mainly because of the fear that I will get it all over the tiles). I did some measurement last night and the gap is at least 10mm – it is 15mm in places – so I would end up...

Silcone sealant on top of Plumbers Mait...

Galoka, that is a very good idea... (not sure why I didn't think of it myself !) In my mind, I always think that those strips need to go on before the tiles - but I know that's not necessarily the case. I will certainly check out the options properly and see if I could get one to work. Thank...

Silcone sealant on top of Plumbers Mait...

I could use a mortar mix – but it doesn’t feel like the right thing to do. The sink is likely to move a little, so if I make it too strong, the mortar will doubtless crack – whilst if it is too weak, it will eventually get washed away… I don’t think tiles are the answer – the space is too...

Silcone sealant on top of Plumbers Mait...

Not really… The gap is not consistent – and its size is caused in part, by the angle of the sinks sides. The sink actually touches the wall in places – but about 20mm from the top. I’m a bit nervous about trying to get the Plumbers Mait out. I’ve got black slate tiles on the wall and I can...

Silcone sealant on top of Plumbers Mait...

I have an old Belfast sink, sat on a stand, in the corner of my utility room. It is tight up against the tiled wall - but there is still a fair sized gap, that water can penetrate. The walls aren’t square, and the sink has a bevelled top, so the gap between the top of the sink and the wall is...

No power getting to a Baxi boiler

I couldn't have done it without you (but you already know that !). Incidentally, non of the electricians that I contacted have even got back in touch with me. They just don't seem interested in solving problems... It's quite shocking really ! (if you'll excuse the pun !!). The system is...

No power getting to a Baxi boiler

EFL, you are a genius :D (I assume you can see the yellow and green lights on the boiler) ...and even if you are not a genius, you have the patience of a saint (which is almost as commendable). I rechecked the wires inside the boiler this morning - and then checked every connection block...

No power getting to a Baxi boiler

OK. Wish me luck - I will switch it on tomorrow morning... Needless to say, I will post my result (assuming there isn't a big bang  )

No power getting to a Baxi boiler

OK – I’ll give it a try – but tomorrow morning, when the children are out of the house ! I appreciate what you are saying about the previous set-up – but the boiler was installed by British Gas – and the electrics installed by a British Gas electrician. No one else has touched them (until I...

No power getting to a Baxi boiler

Good evening EFL. I have connected everything as per the ‘S’ plan diagram – though I have not dared to make the circuit live yet ! It all makes perfect, logical sense to me – provided I ignore the photos ! Of course, I am struggling to do that (more so than you are I suspect !) –...

    Possible faulty CH timer

I must admit, I didn't expect to see you over here :o Is solving the electrical problems of the UK not enough of a challenge ? - or are you looking to move into plumbing because that's where the money is

    Possible faulty CH timer

Hi Mick, All of the photos (apart from the one I posted today) are from before the work was carried out. What I was trying to do, was get things back into the same state (which I naively thought, meant they would work !). ELF has kindly provided me with an ‘S’ plan wiring diagram, which I...

No power getting to a Baxi boiler

I thought this photo might be useful - it shows the relative position of the power supply, timer and boiler, so should help you orientate yourself: 2 cables go from the power supply up to the wiring box (which is located in the airing cupboard above the utility room). One of these...

No power getting to a Baxi boiler

OK - to answer your questions: The brown is actually in HW on (along with a black - which goes to the wiring box. There is just a black in CH on - which also goes to the wiring box). The brown in HW on goes to the live in the boiler (it's not a great photo, but it you look carefully, you...
