A surveyor friend of mine suggested painting the stuff with paraffin.... I'm assuming this wasn't a pre-requisite to burning it :-)
Wondered if anyone else had heard of this as a cheap way of treating it?

Decided to give it a go (after finding more info on the subject from a past post) and all is well now. Had to clean the acual microswitch, as it was getting stuck and not returning so it could be pressed again.
