    Steaming header tank and asbestos

Hi all Had a chance to look properly - and yes it is pumping over. When the boiler starts water pours gently from the vent pipe over the expansion tank. I have turned down the boiler heat and the pump and leaving it off as muhc as possible. Two radiators have air in upstairs and all are very...

    Steaming header tank and asbestos

Thanks Rico I need to get home and check, and I'm no expert, but there is a pipe hanging over the top which appears to disappear out under the roof to outside. But obviously there is another pipe you're saying connected to the system and I need to check this. There is a ballcock with an over...

    Steaming header tank and asbestos

Thanks Ben No probs with the peanuts, I know what your saying. I agree with all you say, it's just I simply do not know if this plumber did a good job or not. I go back to the point that my radiators are hot, which would imply it's not blacked?? but why is it venting up into the expansion...

    Steaming header tank and asbestos

Thanks to all so far on this one. It wasn't peanuts Ben, I would say mid range, but I take your point. As far as the sludge issue is concerned, the radiators are very hot which made me question the sludge issue. The plumber as you read thinks the problem is sludge as he replaced a stuck return...

    Steaming header tank and asbestos

Many thanks John I was hoping you may say nothing was majorly wrong. The pump has 3 speeds and it's set on 2 whihc has worked fine (very quiet pump). I don't know about the reputation of the power flush people, but I didn't pay the earth. You'd be right, he put in scoops of a powder at the...

    Steaming header tank and asbestos

Hi all Thanks again for everyone who helped sort out my original problem of a stuck return valve and I now have a near perfect central heating system. I have a problem if any of the skilled guys (and gals) can answer, and I would be very very grateful. To be brief, I have a Victorian 3...

Removal of a laminate floor - probelm

Thanks guys Yes brute force is shifting it. I started with a wrench gripping the corner by the door and taking bit size pieces out until a channel was made, then snapping along this line. Many thanks. Richard

Removal of a laminate floor - probelm

Hi all I'm sure this must be dealt somewhere in the forum, but I can't see it - so apologies. I am removing a laminate bedroom floor for a new carpet. The fitters says it's not difficult, but it is driving me mad  . I have removed the cork around the skirting, but with a screwdriver at...

    Is this problem unsolvable?

With the other radiators shut down the lounge one does get very hot at the top, so I think there's work to be done on flushing. The use of a Magnaclean filter is I think a very sensible idea. Cheers guys as ever, much appreciated. Richard.

    Is this problem unsolvable?

Hi all Gained some great advise on here about my 3 bedroomed Victorian semi, with its cold radiator down in the lounge. After a chemical desludging and balancing, it was hardly better, so have now fitted a new slightly bigger pump - Grundfos 15/60. It seemed to work a treat for a week, but...

Flushing a radiator yourself - how?

Hi all I'm planning on removing a downstairs old radiator to flush it through. There seems to be little advise on how to flush it once off the wall. Do you do this in the garden with a hosepipe under pressure? Any advise very welcome to make the job as effective as possible. Richard.

Increasing speed of pump or changing it?

Yep, what's interesting is the new pumps look like the one I have in, but I presume they have looked the same for years as standard, rather than it being an indicatation of it being fairly new.

Increasing speed of pump or changing it?

Thanks Chris. Yep, you're right, underneath I've found a dial with 3 settings, but it's up to 3. :( On the desludger 'Agile', I take your point, and I had lots of discussion with a local plumber about chemical desludgers and their value. Was advised to leave it in for several weeks, and turn up...
