Timer in use is a Honeywell ST9400A

The timer has separate controls for the water and central heating. We have hot water heated by immersion tank and boiler only heats central heating system. We dont use the boiler to heat the water in the house generally. The boiler doesnt seem to be getting a proper call from the timer to start...

Can you expand on this Terry? The green light comes on when you reset the power supply and set the timer to constant and then the motor runs but does not then fire up the boiler and then the whole thing shuts off (no green light). It is odd that it ran for a mniute after we refilled the oil tank...

OK thanks. I have just fitted a socket in the loft for this very reason so hopefully it will all work OK once I have made all the connections to the amp and PSU.

Exactly that!! Bloomin heck Echoes thats spot on. Restored power but then after seeing the switch did not work, and checking all my connections again, I went back to the main supply box and yes one of the RCD's had tripped. Landing light now switches on and off from both downstairs and upstairs...

OK today I isolated the mains and rewired the landing light switch as Echoes recommended. Reconnected the supply and the landing light switch works fine with the new single gang two way switch plate I put in place of the old one. The loft light is now permanently on, which is what I expected...
