    Angle Grinder safety

Thanks hitachimad, just the sort of practical stuff I'm looking for. Your tip about NOT cutting near the motor is really on the money - I'm sure that would seem a natural thing to do - I'll watch out. PS I noticed that the less expensive hitachi grinders don't have a swivel gearbox - it seems...

    Angle Grinder safety

I'm an experienced power tool user including saws, routers etc but I know nothing of big angle grinders. I have dozens of 2x2 slabs to cut and intend buying a trade router & diamond disc(s) Worthwile going for vibration dampening? (I considered hiring dedicated gear but this job will spread...

    Routers

Hi Joe, I'm a router anorak and use mine for all manner of jobs from decorative edging to edge planing, jointing, rebating etc. I use a Bosch 1400ACE for most hand held jobs and also have a Bosch 2000CE for table use and heavier hand-held work such as worktops. If you'd like a specialist link...

    Re-sharpen SDS?

Thanks, Andy, pretty much what I thought. Just didn't want to admit it! Have never tried carbide tips on a grinder.

    Re-sharpen SDS?

I have a few SDS plus 14mm - 24mm all lost their new edge. Quite expensive to replace for occasional DIY, possible to resharpen? How? Thanks.

    check valve & service valve

I know that I must have check valves on my bathroom re-fit for shower (cold mains electric) and H&C combi-fed mixer taps. Should these be double or single valves. Should I fit service valves as well? I've looked for a similar post unsuccessfully so apologies if I'm re-inventing the wheel...

    Noisy ceiling switch

Bathjobby, you're on the money. My reply to plugwash crossed with yours.

    Noisy ceiling switch

It's screwed through plasterboard, plugwash, and is in the angle of joist & noggin with just enough gap for the cable so about 2/3 is under solid wood. I don't think the siting is the problem. The original was fitted similarly but on a different joist. It's a cheap MK switch, will happily...

    Noisy ceiling switch

See what you mean . . . when I operate the switch it makes an loud, echoing clunk. It's a mechanical sound. I've tried putting a soft gasket between it and the ceiling but that hasn't helped. It seems that the cover amplifies the sound in some way. The old switch was a 1950's cone shaped job...

    Noisy ceiling switch

Just replaced & relocated 1-way ceiling switch as part of bathroom refurb. It's VERY LOUD compared to the old one. Any suggestions for a brand that I can substitute? Thanks

Change bath 22mm supply to 15mm?

Many thanks, Chris, much relieved. Mains is actually 0.5 - 0.6 consistently - we're V rural and hesitate to call waterboard as improvement will be at our expense and I'm fearful of being "shut down" in the waterworld equivalent of unsafe gas or electrics.

Change bath 22mm supply to 15mm?

I'm refitting my 1950 bathroom which has the usual 15/22 arrangement to the old bath. I shall need to replace all the pipework. I have a recent Corgi fitted Baxi combi system. Mains is just over 1/2 bar bar. I'd like to use 15mm supply for hot AND cold to my bath (obviously 22 > 15 tap...

Core bits best. Work slowly, lubricate/cool. Have a look at eBay.

How to stick ceraminc tiles to a Wooden wall.

Hi - looks as if the post: PVA and why you shouldn't use it as a primer - may give you a clue - to do with moisture absorbtion from the adhesive. Scared me when I read it! See beginning of this section and subsequent thread. Best Wishes
