    Soundproofing Floor

In need of a bit of advice. I have a bedroom above a kitchen and from the bedroom you can hear everything in the kitchen - every little sound. This is because there are gaps between the bedroom floorboards and a very thin foam-backed carpet with no underlay. Sound insulation is non-existant...

    CELOTEX TIPS AND TRICKS

Cut Celotex with the sharpened edge of a wallpaper stripping knife. Nice straight cuts, zero dust.

Little bedroom's ceiling is infested with moulds

@Joe - can you explain why when I open a window (during the past few months, i.e. summer/autumn) I see a drop in relative humidity within the room without seeing any significant drop in temperature in the room (i.e. small drop in room temperature, big drop in relative humidity). EDIT: OK...

Hip to gable roof extension on a corner plot...

You also need to consider where the main entrance to the house is and the windows on the side of the house. If the main entrance is on the side and there is a habitable room with a window to the side (as is sometimes the case with corner plot houses) then the principle elevation can be in...

    Wiring a continuous extract fan

I had a proper damp survey done and they recommended continuous ventilation rather than running a dehumidifier, mainly because there is already some ventilation via air bricks. Running a dehumidifier would just extract moisture out of air pulled into the cellar. Anyway, I've just had another...

    Wiring a continuous extract fan

Thanks for the reply. No, there's no cable from this light to a switch. It seems like the cable from this switch comes down from somewhere above....which is why I'm concerned it might be an expensive job. There is one working double socket in the cellar.....could that be used to provide...

    Wiring a continuous extract fan

Getting a sparkie in to do this, but I'm curious as to how it's done....especially as far as my budget is concerned. I need to add a continuous extract fan into my cellar (running at low speed 24x7), but the only lighting circuit nearby that it can connect to is a an 'extension' off the main...

Combi's & Flow rates for showers

I have a thermostatic shower running off my Baxi Platinum 28HE and it's more than powerful enough. Previously I had a 10.8KW electric shower and the shower running off the combi is much more powerful....though obviously not up to power shower standards. Assuming your flow rate is good enough...

    Central heating keeps turning off

Sorry, I should have explained a bit better. It's a combi with two circuits - one for the rads, one for some underfloor heating. Each circuit has a 2 way motorised valve controlled by separate thermostats. The UFH works fine, so it very much appears it is either the MV on the rads circuit or...

    Central heating keeps turning off

Would the same hold true given that when I manually force open the MV everything works fine? The bit I find odd is that the MV is closing after just a few minutes. I've read about them not opening, getting stuck open, but never faulting in a way that they close themselves after a few minutes.

    Central heating keeps turning off

Hopefully someone can provide some insight.... My heating is working very poorly on my combi boiler. Hot water is fine. What is happening is that when the thermostat fires up the boiler, the 2 way motorised valve (Salus MV222) moves to the halfway point and the heating starts up. The...
