    Another pump continuously running...

Cable on the way... Thank you all for your help and expertise. I learnt a lot, and certainly enough to do a lot of damage! ;)

    Another pump continuously running...

Thank you guys. I will order and fit the 'suppressor cable'... I pressed Grundfos but I can't imagine they will get back to me very quickly. Is there a chance the suppressor cable fixes the problem completely? i.e. could the relay be temporarily sticking on each current spike? I guess not if...

    Another pump continuously running...

Thanks for the info about the pump issue. Checked the serial number with Grundfos; they confirm the age of the pump is from the period of the fault (8 years old... I had it for 3 or 4). But they say if it worked fine until now it can't be due to the 'current inrush' issue. Does this make...

    Another pump continuously running...

Grundfos ups2 pH 50-60 (on fixed speed 2). I had lots of trouble over the years (I'm on the second pump in 6 years). System was originally installed without bypass loop; after that was fixed I tried to mimic zoning with smart rad valves but had lots of flow issues. Then the ABV broke... Overall...

    Another pump continuously running...

Yes, I think the valves are fine. As you said the boiler doesn't fire... Before your message I tried disconnecting the orange valve wires and the pump kept going. Status was S30 which I think is "no heating demand". No rad or pump symbol on screen so this makes sense. Yet the pump was running...

    Another pump continuously running...

Thank you GasGuru Ecotec plus 418, VU GB 186/2-O H, Condensing boiler. (hopefully that's what you mean!) The PCB is marked 0020080512 I found a forum entry (elsewhere) suggesting the fault could be with one of the motorised valves (providing power when they shouldn't)? I can't quite understand...

    Another pump continuously running...

Bit more info... When the boiler calls for the pump to come on (i.e. when the pump symbol comes on, following heat demand), I hear a click coming from the boiler/PCB. I assume this is the relay doing what it is supposed to... but note the pump was already running due to the fault... (would it...

    Another pump continuously running...

Hi guys hoping for some advice from the experts before I call someone in. S-plan system, has been working ok for a few years. Grundfos UPS2 Pump gets power via the boiler (Vaillant EcoTec+ 418... about 6 years old). The problem: twice now, the pump got stuck on running continuously. It's not...

    Lime render, wrong paint

Hi I'm wondering if someone could advise what my options are. 1930s detached house, solid brick walls, lime mortar and roughcast (or pebble-dash?) render. We have some damp internal patches in various places. Previous owners had it painted outside with non-breathable paint. In some areas, the...

ABV always flowing, Smart valves and overheating boiler

Just in case anyone has some ideas to point me in the right direction! The system: Vaillant EcoTec 418 system boiler with unvented tank. S-plan (2 zone, CH and HW). Grundfos 3-speed pump (set to 2). Recently added smart valves (Drayton Wiser) to 5 out of 9 rads, so boiler load is reduced (all...

    Drayton Wiser and Vaillant Boiler

Hi hkb Yes, that behaviour sounds familiar... On "oil" setting wiser does 3 cycles an hour. On gas it still calls for heat no more than 6 times per hour. I also remember observing it and thinking it was stop-starting loads of times, but on closer inspection the 6/hour was respected... It just...

    Pump overrun/bypass question.

I don't know the answer, but I think the purpose of the bypass is just to remove excess heat from the exchanger in the boiler... As long as you observe the temperature stabilizing during the pump overrun you should be ok. I can't imagine the boiler will be damaged by hot water sitting in it as...

    Pump overrun/bypass question.

I'm interested in what you find out here, Motman... I have the 418 and I think the flashing rad symbol on the display indicates anti-cycling. Also the s8 as fezster said (you need to press 'i' to see the status display). I find mine goes into anti cycle every time it switches off; but if...

    Drayton Wiser and Vaillant Boiler

Thank you I had read that blog, but not to the end of the comments! (and the table doesn't load for me) So I had the impression the anti cycling came on all the time; but I now see it should only come on based on the return vs flow temp diff. If that's the case, that may well be my problem...

    Drayton Wiser and Vaillant Boiler

Thank you fezster Anti cycling seems to come on every time the boiler stops, not just when the return temp is high. Maybe this in itself is not normal... although it makes some sense if the idea is just to stop itself from restarting too soon? From the manual (and a comment from Bunny on this...
