    Alarm technology

Thanks! From what I've read, the newer Texecom stuff does seem to do most of what I'd need and I'm leaning in that direction at the moment. Permission integration is an option but doesn't seem especially easy to achieve, especially for a bog-standard end-user. That said, I note that Texecom...

    Alarm technology

We're straying a bit off-topic here, but I think this is just the march of progress isn't it? Clever people research new things, big companies offer them (with a view to making money), we buy them because we like them. I like the fact that my TV connects to the internet. I like my smartphone...

    Alarm technology

Agree with that but user expectation is driving this. I can remotely configure my car to do all sorts of things. Surely my house should be the same. It should be possible to build secure systems (my online bank can be hacked, but it's not exactly a regular occurrence), and for most users the...

    Alarm technology

Having looked at various options to replace my alarm system at home, I have been surprised by how mainstream ‘professional’ alarm technology seems to lag behind that of the new ‘smart’ consumer alarms now available. Recently I had to secure a warehouse and initially chose one of the smart...

    Castle Caretech

Thanks Scott. You're probably right, although the sounders in the house make a variety of beeps and chimes depending on what's going on at the panel, which suggests there is something more than power going to them. No labelling. Dont be fooled by the yellow sticker you can see on one of the...

    Castle Caretech

Hi I’m looking to replace an old installation in my own house. Essentially much of what exists will be stripped out, with new PIR’s, contacts etc (many are damaged / old technology) leaving just the wiring to be re-used. The system works (after a fashion). The current install uses all 8 zones...

    Remote FCU - Any Ideas?

This is a good idea thanks. The only downside is not knowing the status of the gate from inside (i.e. when you press 'off' how do you know the command was received). You don't want to walk outside to check!

    Remote FCU - Any Ideas?

I'd use the key to unlock the lock and lift the motor off the ground to swing the gate open. It's not Fort Knox this thing - it's a 5 bar gate so you could just climb it. But it's a nice little extra pain for anyone trying to get anything out of the outbuildings.

    Remote FCU - Any Ideas?

Hi I have an automatic gate which is wired to a switched FCU indoors on a spur from the downstairs ring. The gate has a manual open/shut button for postmen etc during the day, as well as the usual gate remotes on our key rings. Ideally I would like to power down the gate at night so that...

    Pump and vent pipe

I think this is a stupid question but I can't find an answer elsewhere. Need to install a pump for a new shower we're putting in. 3 storey house. HW Cylinder in airing cupboard on 2nd floor. Shower will be installed in an existing bathroom (sink and bath only) on 3rd floor. Hot water from...

    New toy from ebay

The amount of this sort of kit (the adaptor) floating around the world is terrifying. I've worked in most of Africa and the Middle East, and China is just pumping it out. Much of it has 'BS' certification or a Union Jack on it or some other claim to genuine quality. Many of these countries...

    New toy from ebay

Don't know why they supplied the white adaptor. Would surely be cheaper for them to ship it with a BIC biro lid... Eidted for seplling
