That's a good plan - may help if the 'plasterer' wants to take things further.

The background is already A1 rated cement board. For some reason the cowboy decided to skim it with Thistle Hardwall which is not fire rated, so it would have had to have come off anyway. The stuff almost dropped off in places as I scraped it off yesterday. Don't know if a surface prep is...

Made a start on chipping the Thistle Hardwall from the inside of the fireplace. Despite it having to come off anyway due to not being even remotely suitable for the inside of a fireplace (49°!), it almost fell off by itself.

The register plate is also cement board and has a steel liner passing through it - is that what you mean?

When I confronted the original plasterer, I gave him several opportunities to get the work sorted, but he just stood there looking shocked saying "What do you want me to do?" When I replied "I'm not a plasterer, what do you think you can you do?", he just repeated over and over "It's within...

Cheers. The plasterboard was indeed done correctly which is why I was looking into sanding it down. If the plasterboard wasn't straight and plumb, with this amount of sanding I'd be through the paper face of the board and into the next room! Plasterer No.2 came around yesterday and seemed...

Plasterer No.2 coming around tomorrow to confirm the state of walls, tolerances, etc (in case of future problems with plasterer No.1), and see if we can tidy anything up as it is. We'll ask him to give a price on the remaining untouched bare plasterboard walls and ceiling too (the 'walls from...

I can assure you otherwise, everything was 'bang-on' in square, straight and plumb with correctly screwed and flush boards. For example, where you have skillfully noted a plasterboard joint that is not flush, there is no plasterboard joint - please see the 'before' pic! If you would like, I...
