what unwanted things regularly get into your garden?

Some stuff I suspect comes from 'tradesmen' who, for whatever reason, do not remove their rubbish. The two half full bags of sand I mentioned is an example. Since then I have remembered a couple of empty paint containers. Our garden is on the side of a valley and when the houses below ours were...

Can I reduce the moss build up on the north side of my roof ?

Patio Magic and Wet & Forget are basically dilute forms of benzalkonium chloride. Something like 7 or 8% and you dilute it down to 1 or 2%. I bought a lot of BAC 50, which is a 50% solution of benzalkonium chloride. I recently did my driveway, see...

what unwanted things regularly get into your garden?

Lots of litter: - Some obviously blown in. - Some presumably brought in by foxes. - Some buried in the past. This includes lots of glass, rubble, metal, bags of rubbish. Most extreme was probably two half full bags of sand, which much have been old as they were cwt! Them as well both from next...

Moss on driveway, best way to remove?

is mostly surfactants, and BAC is used, inter alia, as a surfactant. I've no idea is that is the mechanism by which it kills moss.

Moss on driveway, best way to remove?

No real idea about sandstone, I have only used it on tarmac. But I would be rather surprised if it bleached anything, as that is not the mechanism by which it kills moss, etc. You could try it on an inconspicuous area. FYI, I sprayed my front yard last Friday (5th) when it looked like this...

How can I stop children from climbing my wall and kicking my bins over?

Indeed. I have an established one on my boundary that is due a 'haircut'. When I have done this in the past I have shredded what I cut off whilst wearing new leather gloves. At the end my hands had load of tiny marks on them where the thorns had just penetrated the gloves and made tiny pinpricks...

Can Planning Authority revoke 'sign off' where applicant undertakes 'further development' specifically excluded from the permit

That seems to be the case. Someone in the local residents association often checks developments in the area to see that they match the approved plans and when he tells the planning officers it is the first they have heard of it.

    Cutting holly tree trunk

This is true and is why I said When cutting off growth from the rear one you need to keep at it. But it will be at ground level and thin so can be taken off with a pair of secateurs.

    Cutting holly tree trunk

Just FYI, Someone asked how long it takes to for a stump to look like a bush and other than it being some years I didn't really know. So when I worked on one area I decided to keep track of the changes. A lot of cutting was done in early 2020, the first photo gives an idea of the size of the...

    Cutting holly tree trunk

By then it may be too late. At the moment there is, or seems to be, some space between the trunk and the fence. So currently it should be straightforward to take off the top of the trunk (above the fence) and then take off the rest of the trunk in sections. I thought we were talking about a...

    Tree stumps

Key words there are "I could see". Quite thin roots can be covered in soil and essentially invisible but still be enough to hold it in place. The first time I dug out two tree stumps I, foolishly, cut them off low down and then started digging. The first, smaller, one was hard but I got it out...

    Tree stumps

IMO the key thing when cutting down a tree is to decide if you want to remove the root stump first. If you do then don't cut it the trunk off low down but c. 3-4 foot up. This gives you leverage to help break the roots. This is a bit late for you now, but may help someone in the future. For...

Wood burner bin for garden ?

A long, long time ago I had a bin the same proportions as a dustbin one but the side was a piece of very heavy duty mesh, sprung into place, and the bottom was a circle of the same mesh. This lasted a long time, many years. So when it finally died I tried to replace it but could not find one. I...

Moss on driveway, best way to remove?

Patio Magic (and Wet & Forget) are basically dilute forms of BAC 50. BAC 50 is a 50% solution of benzalkonium chloride. It depends on how thick the moss is. If I get round to doing my tarmac before the moss gets too bad then I just spray it with BAC 50 diluted to the right level. If I have let...

    Clearing gap between sectional garages

@amfisted I have a somewhat similar situation, roughly the same width and c. 4m long, however I can access both ends. I have quite a few Gardena combisystem tools, including a telescopic handle 210 – 390 cm and a garden hoe...
