Hi, thanks for the links - the works are outside of zone two and the consumer unit is RCD protected.
I found this diagram detailing how to wire wall lights up and have followed the instructions but the wall lights will only switch on and off if I have the main light on.
Is there any way I...
Thanks for your response - it is greatly appreciated.
I have removed the plaster from the wall, recessed the brick work and connected the new lights to the existing feed with a block connector, I will cover this with trunking / conduit before I re-plaster.
Would this still be notifiable if...
The feed from the main light was already on the wall - it used to power a previous mirror light. I just tapped into it, I didn't create a new feed.
The existing light switch is only about a metre away from the wall lights so if possible it would be easier to connect directly into that...

I have chased out the mortar which was a mix of very hard, very thin cement on top with very soft almost pure sand...
Hi folks, I don't currently have a garage but I am in the process of building one. I will be digging a trench to bury armored cable this weekend and just wanted to know what size spec would be recommended?
I intend to use the garage as a workshop and will be running a compressor, welder, lights...
What an excellent thread! Well documented and and photographed, informative and logically presented.
I am at the start of the process and currently have more questions than answers but I will definitely be using this thread as a point of reference.
I don't know what your trade is but I...
Yes I agree, I have thought better of it since my original post. I will be opting for the correct length timber, it was just a thought.
Thanks for the responses anyway .
