Over the weekend I drained the system down and refilled. The water which came out was clear and it refilled without issue. (Had to bleed a couple of rads but that is normal.)
There isn't any thermostat on the return pipe and the one on the flow side, which is within the boiler cabinet, was...
It fires up again after 30 minutes. I think the flow is OK as the radiator, which is fed off the HW flow, heats up.
The whole system was drained down last summer as a radiator was moved so I would hope it's not gunged up already!
Hi,
I have a problem with our gravity fed Potterton Profile 80e boiler whereby if the controller/timer is set to Hot Water the boiler will fire up and run for a 3 minutes and then cuts out and wont fire again. If the controller is then set to Central Heating it will run perfectly well...
Thanks Murf. I replaced the cylinder with the same make as the old one and got the same symptoms, so I don't think the cylinder. (This has worked well for the 12 years we've lived here too.) It all points towards the boiler....???
Just to confirm that both header tanks are working and are full. (I had to drain the HW tanks as the isolating valve leaked when I replaced the cylinder.)
Yep, the pipe which connect to the middle of the cylinder is really hot, the return is not.
I really cant see where there can be an...
Thanks Murf. One of the first things I looked at was the header tank, that's full and the ballcock works well. I had tried draining and refilling the system before putting the new cylinder in.
What did the boiler you looked at get choked up with? I've been assuming that the boiler os OK as it...
Thanks for the replies folks. Here are the answers to your responses:
Charnwood:
Is the feed pipe hot right up to the cylinder?
Yes, the feed pipe is hot right up to the cylinder
There is no motorised valve, the CH has a pump, the HW uses graivity.
There is no cylinder stat. I'm not sure...
Hi all,
I'm getting desperate.....
I have this problem where my gravity fed Potterton Profile 80e boiler keeps cutting out and the water in the hot water cylinder is not getting hot, however all the radiators in the house, which are pumped, are really hot and the house is toasty even...
With the boiler stat in the '0' position the pilot light is not lit. The pilot light only sparks when the boiler is firing up. (I hope I have answered what you asked!)
Thanks again
Hi,
We have a Potterton 80e boiler which is playing up. It clicks, you hear a whirr as the fan starts and then a second or so later it clicks again and the fan turns off. It might do this 20 or 30 times before the boiler will fire.
I have removed the red hose, sucked and blowed and it...
Thanks JohnD. The curve of the waste pipe is higher than the sink trap but is a few inches lower than the drainer height. I'll re position it this evening.
Is there a valve which should prevent the back filling from happening? It looks like the float mechanism in the 'plastic water matrix'...
