External Wood Door, sand and Varnish

Hi
My External wood door is looking very drab and faded. I really gnat to try and sort it out myself but I'm concerned that I will somehow screw it up and was looking for some tips.
I was going to remove then door and then sand down with 100 grit paper and then go over gain with 150 and then apply external varnish, something like Ronseal. Would it be that easy?

Firstly make the sanding easier, if you haven't already done so, by getting a detail sander?

You probably don't need to remove it.

Thanks for all your suggestions, left the door on and used a detailed sander, turned out better than I thought, cheers.
