Hi.

New to this forum.

Just moved into a new bungalow. The 'Gloworm' boiler is in the garage with no internal door.

There is a control panel (Drayton LP722) next to the boiler which operates the heating and hot water.

Obviously with the boiler and control panel in the garage, this is awkward and inconvenient.

We also have a water tank in an airing type cupboard. Next to this tank is another control type thing called a Horstmann Electronic 7.

Basically, I want to be able to turn the heating and water on when I want to, on demand, in addition to it being timed.

Can anybody offer me any advice.

the controller in the top picture is for your immersion heater

you can change the dual channel timer to something wireless, like a Hive for example https://www.hivehome.com/

or a cheaper way would be just to leave your timer on 24 hours and control your heating from the room thermostat (assuming you have one)

Thanks for the reply. We did leave our timer on for heating and water but it made a bit of an annoying noise in our bedroom, so we just left the water on and turned the heating off. The noise may have been because our house had been empty and unused for 5 years. I might try it again for a bit and see if the noise settles.

So if I leave the water AND heating on (but thermostat down) it will still be cost effective? I'm worried about an astronomical bill coming through!!!

yeah, the thermostat will shut your heating down in the same way your timer will, for the radiators to heat up and the boiler to burn gas, both the timer and the thermostat need to be calling for heat (turned on & up)

also, if you're using the gas boiler to heat your water, make sure that Hortsman timer is set to off, or you'll be heating the water with both gas and electrcity

Just in case you haven't been left the manual, you can press and hold the boost button on the Drayton to get +1,2,3 hours of heating / water.

Thanks. Sorry for sounding a silly sod but I didnt really understand it earlier. Those Hive's look good but got other things to pay out for. Will look at it in more detail when we get the loft conversion done.
