Rubber roofing slating

I am trying without much success to get information on either rubber or plastic roofing slating and how good or bad this material is.

Loads of information on the tiles themselves

BUT?

Has anyone on the board used them?

If so any sensible feedback please? especially there performance in windy conditions? given tonight one of these named storms is making the sea break over the promenade out there

Are you talking about those ones you see on consevatory roofs were weight is an issue and life span is not a priority? What are you thinking of using them for?

The "system" appears to be that there are several products that using recycled plastic or rubber to manufacture a roofing tile product that is the same thickness as a normal roof slate, these things have fissured top surfaces to emulate natural roof slates?

I am not talking about the well known thin felt based cut outs that come in strips and are nailed on to a roof.

The system I am trying to get some long term use and information about is the former rather than the latter thin felt material.

The reason for the post is that a "roofer" has suggested that the, shall we call it the thick version of this product is easier to fix to a roof than Slate? I would question this claim???

My problem is that, there are several web sites offering either plastic or rubber substitutes, but there is little or no information as regards how good these substitutes are as far as life expectancy, resistance to flapping in a Breeze, wind, gale??

It has been suggested that on an area of roof totally invisible from sight, a hidden valley this type of product could be used, the property is a list "B" under the Scottish classification.

I am opposed to this suggestion of using what I consider to be a less than perfect solution? / Material?

If anyone has any input as regards these slate thickness substitute, either rubber or Plastic "Slates" I would be interested, even if it is because i know nothing at all about these products?

The only information I have seen has been in building magazines but they don't give any worthwhile specifications.

I am not going to risk my reputation by recommending rubber slates,
especially as they are almost the same price. I will keep an eye on all those warm roof conservatories that have become popular recently.
