There are very few complete heroes at large.

David Frost allegedly remarked '...Terry, the man who put the corn in leprechaun...'

With due respect empip I wish you had chosen a different title for your thread.

These words are used for remembering our military personnel who placed their lives in danger for future generations.

If anyone knows of any director of a charity who works for free, then I'd love to meet them. Even the young lady who knocked on my door a while ago to get me to set up a direct debit for her charity worked for a collection company who sub contracted to the charity. Charities are a nice little earner. So Tel made a few quid, at least he was entertaining. He never failed to make me laugh.. Bring joy and laughter to the cosmos Sir Terry

But I wouldn't love to meet you. You have a warped and ignorant view of the world.

So a day after Wogan passes away you feel the need to badmouth a guy who cannot reply to you. You really are the lowest of the low.

You have never displayed an inability to reply.

There are a great many charitable organisations in the country, and a great many people who put in a lot of time and effort, and don't accept payment.

I'm sure there are but even more see their charities as a good opportunity to fund a very comfortable lifestyle.

i think 90-95% off your donations should go to the "front line"to be called a charity
most people would be disgusted to find out the tin rattlers the door knockers the clipboard warrors are paid
no commercial organisation should be allowed charitable status without stating exact percentagesto the front line
as i said most expect at least 80% to go to the front line rather than as low as 3%

"...When people hear the word “charity”, their thoughts turn to jam-making, and people dressed in silly costumes, carrying collection tins. Few thoughts turn to the National Audit Office (NAO) report Public Funding Of Large Charities – 2007...

...It revealed that some of these “charities” had hundreds of different public funding streams. One, Leonard Cheshire, had over 4,000. The report uncovered a huge disparity between publicly funded income, and charitable donations. Of the £218 million income identified for Action For Children, £196.7 came from public money. Of the £164 million income for the “charity” Mencap, £155 million came from public funding ..."

Having read the above :-

Quote :-
"...But it’s important to note that the charities that the public support tend not to be the ones where the vast majority of the tax-payer money goes. And in some cases it probably won’t cause much interest, as the report itself says “It is unlikely that anyone is too concerned about how much money RNLI receives from local authorities for providing beach lifeguards, particularly since it is clear from the accounts that the charity is overwhelmingly funded by donations from individuals...”
