Can I extend an already extended semi-detached?

My 1930's semi has been extended out the back previously (12 years ago), full width of the house on the ground floor, and the 1st floor is only 1/2 house width (the 1/2 not joined to next door). I'd say its about 3m out from the original house. Could we extend back out another 3-4m, full width just single story? I assume it would need a lower pitch roof, but would this be allowed?

Any pointers or advice greatly received, and please ask any questions if I've missed anything off

Yes you can.
Whether it would be allowable under PD is another matter.
6m out from the existing building would likely mean a flat roof or some clever design.

Permitted Development.

The criteria by which determines whether you can either go out and build your extension without seeking permission or, if your proposals don't meet the criteria, then you are liable for a Planning Permission application.

Sorry OP, but an extension on to an existing extension would not come under permitted development and would need planning permission.

When considering whether or not a development would be p.d., they look at the whole extension (ie previous plus proposed) as one development.

Oh god sorry, I should of said, I assumed it would need planning permission applying for as though it were a new extension, but wasnt sure regarding rules etc of extending a fairly average 3 bed-semi out that far, Wasn't sure if going out another 3 metres would meet the criteria they decide against?

Completely new to this and a little unsure of the process, so didnt want to spend £££'s on someone drawing up plans only for the planning permission to be refused straight away because of something I didnt know about

Sorry Tony, I didnt explain it best I could, what i meant to ask was would you guys think they'd approve the application to extend further? I know I'll need to apply for PP, but didnt want to go through the expense etc if my idea is a dead cert of being turned down for some rule/regulation that I am unaware of, but someone in planning will look at and say 'no' straight away.

You need to look at your council's policy guidelines for domestic extensions, which will be viewable on the council's web site.

Thanks all (sorry for late reply everyone, loads on at work and home). I measured the existing extension and its 3.7m to the outside of new back wall, would that mean we could only add 2.3m maximum to the rear? Am assuming the 6m max you guys mention is from original outside wall of house, to outside of new wall of extension?
