I don't know if this poll has ever been conducted. I don't know if Admin conducted a poll or continue to take opinions.
I don't know if it's considered against rules or policy.

My opinion is that it could provide the opportunity for chitchat and healthy discussion, but sadly it is often abused for political agenda.
I think political discussion is healthy discussion as long as contributors are responsible with the accuracy of their posts and not resorting to abuse.
Unfortunately, what I've seen, that is not the case.
So I would vote: Occasionally, with the comment that the occasional advantage is far outweighed by the more usual resorting to abuse.

Your previous incarnations have not been averse to it (usually justified by "I respond in kind"-type responses).

How about another option?

"All of you egomaniac muppets should just give it a rest because it's dull. You all turned the GD forum into farce"

Every forum on the internet has a general discussion forum where the members discuss off-topic subjects of their choosing with the same people that on-topic subjects are discussed.

You are not obliged to click into every post to contribute or be offended. It's purely optional.

No **** sherlock!

Not offended in the slightest, pretty strange thing to write.
And it would be nice to join in as sometimes they start out interesting. Problem is that those discussions are turned into a peeing competition pretty fast by a handful of members and leaves little room to contribute in an adult way.
